Having issues with thermometers reading different temps, so was looking up various thermometers, etc. Went to google water weenies, thinking I'd rig up a couple "inside the egg temp" contraptions. Of course images of the toy came up, but so did this...

I literally LOL'd.

Anyway, back to my temp/thermometer/calibration research of why the water in the incubator will read 94 degrees when the entire incubator reads 100 and what I should do about that...

How many more are hatching? I don't think I would open the incubator any more because your humidity will drop and you will have shrink-wrapped chicks. Just watch them and they should be fine.

And it's true! It NEVER gets old!

I think I only have 2-3 more viable eggs in there. Barnevelders from my breeding birds, verifying fertility! I did open it to give her some bedding, but I wet down a little face towel to put in there and got the humidity right back up immediately. I guess that's one good thing about having a tiny incubator!

The other eggs in there are shipped ones that were looking pretty clear. (Had detached aircells.)

but I left them in there just in case.

Any of the eggs that looked like they might have something going on in them but weren't hatching with this batch (next weekend!) I stuck under a broody hen in my basement...she is my alternate incubator for now.

Two of the other 3 are pipped! I am hopeful!!!!!

she is so tiny!!! I have read that you shoudl leave them in there for a day but It pains me to do it...I want to take her out and give her water and food.

Hey everybody, hope everyone had a wonder holiday season. I had 3 legbars hatch christmas eve. Two pullets, and one roo. I was really excited. I recieved my bantam salmon faverolles from Reese poultry today, they had a long rough ride, but I still have me fingers crossed for them. My new barn is going up finally. Hopefully in about 6 weeks or less, I will and all my birds will be moved in to our new digs!! Oh, my I can't hardly wait. Been a long time coming. I will soon be able to start overing some of my birds eggs to hatch. I will have black rosecombs, black ameraucana, samon favorelles, silver campine, partridge wyandotte, black white crested polish, wheaton ameaucana. I will get good pictures when I get moved in to the new barn.

What do you guys pay for NPIP testing? I just want a ballpark range, lol. Right now there are 32 adults, several chicks.

$1 per bird to test plus mileage. Then the state has a fee too. (I think $25). A friend tried to find somebody to test for AI and couldn't find anybody to test for it.

So excited! On Wednesday I set 15 buff leghorn eggs and two of my own Dutch eggs, it looks like they All have veining already, one was questionable, but, heck, it's only day three!! :cd
On Thursday, I set 111 quail eggs... I grabbed a couple to candle, and already see some veining! The quail where shipped so if I hatch 60 I will be happy. They only took two days to get here, and sat over night at the PO before I picked them up, so I put them in right away. I think they look pretty good considering they are shipped!

okay, so I caved and took her out for a bit when she got herself in trouble (upside down at the side between the turner and the wall of the 'bator)

meet Buffy, our new Dorking pullet chick!
