Nicole,

You are wanting LF orps???  :th

Busted!

I don't know!! I saw those yesterday and thought... Man, those would look great with my large fowl Cochin
No, I need to focus on just the breeds I have. I still need to build min. 4 breeding pens. If I add any, I won't ever be able to catch up!

AyeUpChuck- I will be able to hatch your black Dutch chicks in about a month. I have to get a box and do some major research into shipping chicks. Is there a date you would like them by?

OK I am working on coops and runs...I have 2 3X4 foot coops that will be done today. They will have runs attached 4 feet by 16 OR 4 feet by 22 depending on how many birds you guys think I can put in the coop/run. Right now I am looking at SFH in one and bantam cochins in the others. So I am looking for advice! how many bird and which size run?

Any ideas? I am leaning towards 4X16 foot runs for this small of coop.

For me, I don't worry about coop size. They sleep in it and lay eggs. None of them hang out in it all day. I have a 6x4 coop and 14 birds in a 18x22 pen. Is part of the pen going to be covered? Will you do snow removal if need be? If I remove snow for them, they come out. Then again, I also have an outdoor roost too and part of their pen is covered.

I don't worry so much about the coop size either. I only use it to lock them up and keep them from coons. Obviously I want them to have enough personal space to sleep, but I have seen my chickens sleep all in one of the coops by choice, instead of spreading out to one of three

Most of mine have chose to sleep on the outside roosts. I have maybe 3 that actually sleep in the coop.
