Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

I do believe I can foresee another incubator in my future. Surely DH will understand the need to have one for incubating and one for hatching, right? Hmmmm...what excuses can I dish out today...? I'm thinking of, "But lovey, we won't be keeping all of the chicks we hatch. If you hatch and sell enough of them you can buy that new scope for your crossbow. "

The Wheatens are going out the first of the week. I was going to ship them yesterday, but I didn't want them to travel an extra day since you are so close.

Got up and before I had coffee I put eggs in incubator. 14 BCM, 6 Silver Phoenix, 4 Naked Neck, 6 White Silkies, 14 SUPRISE eggs and 8 Australorp. WHAT A STRANGE MIX..... I have NO IDEA where I'm going to put them all. I need to downsize on the number of breeds I have, but I don't know where to start. I love them all. AND, I still have new breeds coming this spring from the swap

I really need intervention - I just keep hatching and trading and buying and hubby can't keep up with new pens. Being a chicken lover is hard work!!

Nice to set here and read about others with the same problems = we are not a help group, we are an enabling group!! At least I have learned the new Chicken Math - It helps when I have to explain my addiction to anyone....HA!

Hiya RedBrush Farm! I just put mine in the 'bator at 11 pm last night -- we can be hatch buddies! Totally hear where you're coming from on coop space -- I just keep telling myself I've got at least a few months before they need to be separated, so I have time :)

I got some great idea yesterday, too -- it was wonderful getting to go see Lloyd's set-up at Sunnyside Up, and see how many spaces he's managed to make for chickens. Creative problem-solving is great :) I have a whole entire barn to work with; the problems are dividing the space effectively and outside access -- the 12x12 horse stalls all have small external doors in them because the previous owners had dogs, but the rest of the barn doesn't have any easy way to provide an outside run. So I'm thinking two of the stalls will be for turkeys (and maybe a chicken contingent if they get along), and most of the other chickens will get small freestanding moveable coops outside. My "official" chicken shed with attached run has my motley crew in there, and there's room for a few more to get added :)

Chicken math is a strange and wonderful thing!
