So you are going to get rid of all your adult chickens??? I'm confused. Do you just not want to have anything but eggs and sell chicks??? I'm sorry, I've tried to follow this, but I'm confused?

I think she means that she is only going to bring in eggs and chicks into her farm. No juvies or adults. Too risky. I would have to agree. I am about at that point too. Too much time and $$ invested. Very scary.

Lol sorry Billie Sue
No I'm NOT getting rid of my chickens. Luckily it was nothing that could be passed through to the embryo like MG and its nothing like Newcastle or any other crazy respiratory.

I'm going to as sad as it makes me, send the current bresse to freezer camp after they reach breeding age and produce enough eggs to fill orders and create the actual breeding stock. The current bresse will never be anywhere near my other flocks. They don't necessarily have mareks but are more likely than not carriers. That's just too risky for me.

So once they lay and we can hatch out chicks, who won't be carriers because they'll never be in contact with the parents, and fill our orders. They will be dispatched and if they are in good nick will be our first official taste testers!

Oh and yes that's what I meant about closing the flock. Ill still accept day olds and eggs and potentially ship chicks and definitely eggs but no more grown birds.

Just not bringing adults, to decrease risk. New blood only comes on the property as eggs or day-olds.

Ok, I've been with a room full of 10 year old's all day - by 8:00 you have to spell it out to me..

Glad to know Aye is not going "chicken-less"...

I figured the same thing. I was planning on buying a new drake for the pekins, but I have two drakes growing out. I think instead of eating them and buying a drake and putting my flock at risk, I'll just wait another few months and just make pickled duck eggs til then.

Ok. I'm an addict. I am no longer in denial. 105 chicks in my brooders from Ideal today. Ok, those are not all mine.
