Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

My sister stopped in yesterday for awhile. She kept asking me what we did to the front yard, because it looked bare and empty... Finally I figured out what was missing... the birds!!! They usually fill the front yard and without them ranging because of the cold, the yard looks barren, lol.

From my own experience, they just require more humidity and more ventilation. When ducks pip internally and die, from my experience, it is because there wasn't enough ventilation. The most common mistake is closing some of the ventilation holes to get the humidity higher which ends up suffocating them. Just a lesson from my years of hatching ducks that I learned the hard way more than once.

I hope that helps some of you hatching ducks!

I hatched these in a styrofoam incubator, which has 8 or so smaller holes plus the two larger holes. Both vent holes were open and I upped the humidity with a wet towel and sponge with big reservoir so that I didn't have to open the incubator. I don't know how I can up the ventilation more than that without propping it open. Shrug? I know sometimes it's just not meant to be, but it's just so frustrating when they did so well for 32 days, everything on schedule and humidity seemed perfect, then bluh.

Delighted with my 3, though, they are adorable. All things being equal, I really didn't need 9 ducks.

ATTENTION!!!

If anyone would like to go half on a pair of Partridge Barthuhners on RBA please PM me. And please be serious about it!!!

Ok just so you all know I do NOT hand out pink cockatoos all the time, this was a case of right place right time and Zeke was smitten by Daphnie, she with him. I just don't have time for him and I have always said I would do whatever is best for my animals no matter what. Zeke has an open invetation to return anytime. I doubt that will happen.
I'm sure most of us know that. He has a great home and will be loved. You know where he went. It wasn't like you gave him to a complete stranger and have no idea what conditions he will live in.

Oh and hey, I'll tell ya some other things from my mad excursion over to Rachael's:

1) Yes, CPL really does have that many breeds. Plus a couple I don't remember ever seeing her offer on the swap yet -- she's been holding out on me! :p

2) I want her back porch. And everything on it!

3) If CPL ever offers Babymakes6's kids on the swap thread again, take them! Well, after I claim two or three ;)

and 4) if Babymakes6 ever invites you to dinner, don't turn it down :)   YUM!!!

I'm sore as heck today, I'll admit, but it was really great getting to meet them finally. I can't wait for the April swap meet!

Thank you so much, you really don't know how much that helped. It only took me a few min to feed including the bread. I bought 3 more heated waterers for those 3 pens, now if I can just get time to get an extension cord, I'll be in heaven.

If Daphnie ever offers to do something for you don't even think twice about it.

We were so desperate for help that when I told DH a stranger that I met online is going to be here helping with the chickens unsupervised and have the run of the house he said ok. We don't even let some friends and family members in our house unsupervised. Ok DH doesn't even let me in the house unsupervised.

Cluck did you tell them about your 1 mission? I had a 2nd one that I forgot to give you because you got the 1st one done so quickly and we paid for it later, well BM6's Tupperware did, it will be soo funny if Tupperware replaces that. What category would that have to fall in?

if they are SQ call duck eggs I will warn you that they are extremely hard to hatch, often need help. Their bills are too short to reach the shell for proper pipping and leaves them wanting to hatch but incapable of getting it done. Just be ready to watch them closely, and help slowly once in lockdown
I may be PMing you. I think they are SQ

of course the first ducks I try to hatch are the HARDEST

LOL! Oh gosh -- yeah, guys, it's not like she has two hundred gorgeous cockatoos just randomly kicking around. We just fell in love, and CPL gave us her blessing :) He's a riot! He's more of an attention hound than my cats. If anyone ever thinks they want a cockatoo or other large parrot, PLEASE research what you're getting yourself into first. You're basically signing on for 40+ years with a very active, inquisitive, easily bored toddler.

LOL! Not yet :) We'll call this story "Your first mission, should you choose to accept it..."

So here I am, just pulled into CPL's driveway practically, and Rachael is like "Okay, I need you to do something." Which is what I went over there for -- she's juggling a lot right now and I could tell she was getting a little stressed and behind on stuff (no wonder!). So of course I said "Okay" and she hands me a plastic bag containing zip ties and wire cutters and says "Here's your tools. Go out to the front coop. You'll see the problem."

Well, the problem is a poor little Russian Orloff who apparently wasn't smart enough to go in out of the cold one night and froze in the pen, poor thing. The challenge is that CPL's front coops and pens rival Fort Knox. So my mission was to extricate said poor little frozen Orloff from what is essentially a hermetically-sealed, impenetrable fortress, preferably without dismantling the entire thing, lol! I had to sit there and look at it for a while before figuring out how to gain access without absolutely tearing the pen to pieces, extricate the expired Orloff, and seal it back up again.

Yeah, Rachael? Next time just install retinal scans and passcodes -- it'll be easier

I'm bummed, though -- one thing I didn't get to was learning how to give serama manicures!

And what did I miss? I missed something. What did you do to BM6's tupperware???
