Ugh of my last staggered hatch only one made it. :(. The rest died in their shell at the last minute. Now that i did some more reading I guess that means my humidity was too high. So annoying, since this is the first time I had a humidity measure at all so following the directions with the new incubator got me the worst hatch ever! I should have just stuck with adding a little water here and there like I have always have before. GGggrrr!

What do I do about the single? I don't have anything to hatch for over two weeks. Will she be ok that long by herself or do I need to find her a friend ASAP?

I am so sorry to hear that. I never trust instructions that come with equipment too much. Most times, it's the ones who have been doing it that I trust. If you can find a friend then I would say that would be best option. If not, I'm sure there are others here that can tell you what to do until you have another.

Yeah I should know better. And figured as much about the friend for her...but ugh I am not a fan of the weirdos on Craigslist....even thought I am sometimes a weirdo on Craigslist

You may want to try Craigslist or one of your feed stores to see if anyone has chicks available. If you can't find one put a mirror in with the chick so it thinks it has a buddy. I had hatched a singleton Serama and she screamed her head off until I put a mirror in with her. Problem was when I did move her to a new brooder with other chicks she started screaming again until I put the mirror in the new brooder.

Hah! That's funny!

Good morning!

I hatched out a SFH in December that was all by herself for two weeks. I put a stuffed animal in the brooder, but I found she just wanted attention. I kept it right in the middle of the kitchen so she always saw us and got some interaction. I finally hatched some chicks, and even though she was two weeks older, I stuck the chicks in with her to keep company and she was kind of jumping about the chicks... But she was fine.
My son was up all night last night. It is going to be a looonngg day!

I raised a singleton without a friend, he did very well with his little buddy, a stuffed blue octopus. He would snuggle up under it, cuddle with it, and was really quite a friendly little guy. He also was quite interactive with my kids, who would come up to the chick TV to talk to him. That was the original "Kevin". Now all baby chicks...and the ducks...are "Kevin"s.
