No offense, I know a lot of people like Ideal but I personally think it's Ideal. I got a batch last fall and out of 18 I ended up with 13 and of those only 5 have truly thrived. I was thinking it was the weather and it was the first time I had the chicks outside instead of in the house. But of the the 5 I kept only my pair of Speckled Sussex has truly truly seemed like they are growing. One of the people I sold some of the chicks to says the Brahmas and Cochin I sold him are doing great. One chick never grew past 1 week old and died just after 3 weeks old. I also lost a healthy (or so it seemed) EE at 3 or 4 weeks. I will probably not go there again myself. That is just my opinion. I even gave my chicks gro-gel and Quik chick when I got them. Even if I were to be dissapointed with a breed or color I at least was happy from where I got them, this was beyond not the case with Ideal for me.
My bantam wyandottes came from Ideal and every day I would get up to find another one dead. And I'm talking like a week later I was still finding them dead for no reason.

Hi everyone

I would like to make something perfectly clear right know.

I do not nor have I ever made the claim that any of my birds, including my silkies are of "show quality" although some probably are and some are not. I do not care one way or the other, that is not why I have them. I have them for the simple joy of getting up in the mornings and taking care of them, going out several times a day to spend time with them, and laughing at some of the silly things that they do. I am just posting this because someone is hatching some of my eggs today and they sent me a pm ranting because the chicks did not meet their standards. Again, I never said they were "show quality" and they never said that is all they wanted, if they had I would not have swapped with them. I have 24+ silkie eggs that could have shipped to someone tomorrow but I think I will just feed them back to the flock, they will probably appreciate them more.

ah, that is too bad. the little ones I hatched from your eggs are adorable! I was happy just to get the little ones. if people are looking for show quality they need to ASK before committing. JMHO anyway.

Exactly!!! or stay on the SQ swap thread

Sew- I lost 4 of my original shipment of Cochins from Ideal. They sent replacements last week for the chicks that weren't Cochins. So 10 Cochins and 10 BR males. I lost 3 during and right after shipment. The next morning I lost 3 more, and then yesterday morning 4 more. This morning they were fine. Ideal is reshipping the order, on Monday. Again.

and just because you have show quality does not mean they will produce show quality. It takes alot of hatching to get what you are looking for. It gives you an advantage but no guarantee. I have seen National champion horses that couldn't produce if their life depended on it.

Well too bad you cant ship to me! I actually like the non show quality better...they are just as cute but usually can see better without a needing a haircut
