Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

Everyone let me know if you are interested in a Secret Santa Swap and which way you would like to do it:

1. Choice of a list of items and then I will match up with hatching eggs as an option for those that won't be in freezing weather (I will try to keep the match up by regions.)

or

2. Fill out a list of facts about your self and then the random match will get to send/buy/create a gift based upon those facts. Hatching eggs would still be an option on this it would just need to be listed.

I would like to post the sign-ups in the next week and have close out the week of Thanksgiving in order for everyone to have plenty of time to get gifts shipped by 2nd week of December in case we want to include actual Christmas items. (decorations, decorated shirts, etc.)

Thanks,
Crystal

I was outside when a hawk tried to get to some doves that where in my juvie pen at the time. It's completely covered as all our runs are. It kept diving at the birds and running into the wire then decided it wasn't worth the effort plus I was running towards it yelling which is probably what chased it away. At our old place a hawk flew right between DH and a grandson to snatch a squirrel from a tree. The squirrel saw it and ran around the tree and the hawk missed but it scared the daylights out of my grandson

Omg I almost just had a heart attack...sooooo glad I covered my runs w/ wire, just put some of my young-uns in two of my unoccupied runs yesterday, and a hawk totally just landed right on top of the wire. Luckily I am sitting out here with them working on my laptop, the hawk came from around the side of the house and didn't see me until it was on top of the runs, but whoa that was scary. I do have some of my adults free ranging, they are probably bigger than that hawk was, but I don't know if that means it wouldn't take them...I wonder how big a chicken would have to be, to be safe from your average size hawk?
I have never had a hawk casualty but the small cooper hawks are the worst. They can't carry the chickens off but will kill and eat them in the pen.

I once saw my Welsummer rooster body slam a chicken. I wondered what the heck he was doing and then saw a cooper hawk fly out of from the dog pile. I have never lost a chicken to a hawk and I think it is because they know my hawker will kick their little butts.

The hawks have been terrible at my house this year. I lost several younger birds; a hawk attacked one while my 15 year old son was in the yard with them! I also lost a sizeable hen to a smaller hawk. They will still try to kill the larger birds if they feel safe enough about remaining there to eat. So frustrating! I have really had to limit free ranging. Now I rotate my groups every day and only let them out to forage if I'm there.

ok folks keep on offering those chick assortments, hubby insisted I shut incubators down for awhile, he said nothing of getting chicks delivered.
