Good Morning Chicklandians!

Has anyone been able to talk to CPL lately? She asked me to tell everyone that she would be on the thread and catchup but that has been a week ago

Did you get bantam chocolate orp eggs from me? The B would be from my black hens. I have no birds that are LF and lay a decent size brown egg. My White bresse are still laying pullet eggs.
It was a hen's choice of whatever was laying around that you collected. I'm guessing instead of light tan that the three LF must be white. It is hard to tell in this goofy flourescent lighting.

The raccoons and possums just stopped caring that there is anything out there. We have a dog on a run, they learned to walk around him. We have a donkey. They avoid him. We have geese in the outermost runs, they leave them alone and kill everything else around them. It's just a losing battle. They just kill birds for the fun of it. I hate the buggers and I'm sick and tired of fighting so hard to get so far behind.

A trap, a few cans of cheap catfood and SSS.

Been there, done that (raccoons & opossums, fortunately no skunks yet).

We have live traps out too. We've killed 40-50 raccoons and around 5 possums in the past 2 years and it feels like we haven't even made a dent. We live on 80 acres, so when we kill one family of them off, another one moves in.

For those of you wondering why I am so frustrated. Let me explain. I thought I made our pens impossible to get into since we have a problem with possums, raccoons, and coyotes. Here is what we did: we built pens with metal at the top and at the bottom with the middle wire. It is like a window. Somehow, the raccoons and possums have found a way to climb up halfway and eat through the fence there. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about:

stuffed animal and a parrot mirror

All I could find was a snowman, so that's what I left whiney with. Seems they made friends since he's quite now that I came back, so cool beans.

F
flocks I've got all sorts of chicks to keep goosey company... :D

Oh we have plenty of chicks, but no wiggly little yucks or gooseys to be messy with.

Awesome! I'm having a hard time right now. There's a nearby "farmer" if you can call her that. She's about to ruin the market on bourbons here. She's building an inbred bourbon army. I almost bought turkeys from we a while back but when I asked about lines or how she kept the sideline breeding at bay ie brothers and sisters, she said oh I don't new to the hens choose the toms and they know to stay away from their bothers and sisters :th that's all I got!

These people are crazy and are going to ruin a working farm that they've inherited. They've got alpaca, turkeys, chickens, geese and pretty much anything else you can name running around. They had four types of turkeys running together and had a hatchery out to sign papers but were told they'd have to separate the breeds. She even told them. Oh they stick to their own kind. :lau the hatchery people were like all us when they're separated.

So now she just has narans and bourbons and is planning on having 100 toms and 600 hens for breeding. Sigh. Some people's children
.

WOW,just wow!

And here I am trying to grab every other genetic strain I can just so I don't have inbreeding. Guess they don't know that fertility and hatch ability is lost BIG TIME from inbreeding. Well obviously they don't know that if they think that siblings won't mate. How moronic!
