For those of you who use fermented feed, what do you put it in to feed your birds. All my chicks did was walk in it and get shavings all in it. Now they did eat the heck out of it though.

I use an oversized dog bowl...but plan to make a special feeder from 4 inch PVC with 25% cut out, so it looks ike a big "C" ; Hubby is making a bracket so it can slide in and out of for cleaning. I also think I may put a few holes in the bottom for drainage. but maybe not... i'll see how it goes.

Does anyone have Jeff/Papas Poultry's address? I'm standing in line at the PO and just realized I left the dang thing on the kitchen counter. Help

TD - first picture are cockerels, second picture a pullet. Most of those group chicks are pullets.

Seriously??? This is a WONDERFUL moment in the Henson household!

Two males and seven females! Perfect!

I see two females that I would absolutely love to hatch-the almost black ones. Mark them and see how they turn out. They will likely be a beautiful silvery-cream. The light brown females always seem to end up gold. For males you want the light silvery-brown chicks and they end up with very little red on them. Excellent job, Tim!

REALLY??? I knew I had at least 5 females, but I wasn't sure on those two really dark ones that had tiny white dots on their heads. Those are pullets too? I was concerned that they might be really dark males.

I use those rubber tub feed bowls, plus plop it on the floor (papertowels for bedding) in the brooder and cages I like using 1/2g milk jugs with a section cut out so they can't get in it. Those "feeders" are hung in the corners of the cages to keep them at the right height.

I'd also like to thank everyone who voted on soap scents. What an immense help! I might be asking for another vote soon though once I get caught up on making soap a little bit. I cheated and made some honeycomb this time instead of just voted on scents, but I DID tackle three voted on scents! Thanks guys!

I have a question. I've offered on the swap thread, and it's past 3 hours now. I've not swapped a lot, but I've not had to have any roll backs either. What happens when/if my offer's rolled back? I read that if I stall it for 24 hours I lose the rest of the week's swaps. Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I have a dreadful hatch happening now...Nothing. I intend to disinfect my old LGs this weekend, and transfer the remaining eggs into them. Then I can see what's going on. Everyone is developing! Just not hatching. I've tried hatching them in the cabinet, and still using the Hovabator as a hatcher. Lousy hatchs, from developed eggs. I'm murdering clutch after clutch. :( I must sort this out. I'm about ready to quit trying to hatch anything at all.

It has helped me emmensely to stop turning and put in lock down about three days earlier than normal.  I do it day 15 and my hatch rates exploded.

I will try that with the turkey eggs up next. Can't make my hatch rates worse!

Have you checked your ventilation?  You might have to increase the ventilation rate in the incubator and even in your room.
I hadn't thought of that. The vent holes are on the back, so I'll need to pull it out to see if the covers have slipped, or if I just need to open them more. I had so much less frustration and better hatches with the LGs, although when I started with the cabinet it was doing very well. Trying to troubleshoot something new is a crapshoot!

I fixed that..

but in the future - when a swap is rolled back (after 6 hours or when given the go-ahead by swapper like you did) the claimant can claim either the rolled back offer or the old offer that was claimed. The time you were up (before being claimed or rolled back) is added to your weekly total and if you go over 24 hours you can't swap again that week. Everything resets on Sunday... The swap doesn't allow for a 24 hour stall - it rolls back after 6 hrs automatically.

I wonder if everybody's incubators are full? Oh wait - everybody is cleaning out brooders and moving around chicks - oh oh... they are COUNTING THEIR CHICKENS AFTER THEY HATCHED!!!! That may be why the swap is very slow today!

Quote: I just want to clarify something - when the offer is rolled back after 6 hours, the time still accumulates for the last swapper to claim until either of the offers now up is claimed by someone new. (Is that clear as mud?) So it is possible that the entire 24 hours could be accumulated at one time if both offers continue to stall, but it is not likely.
