OK for people smarter than me I realize a Rhode Island Red Roo over a WhIte Rock hen is a sex link but what color are the Cockerels and what color for pullets. Trying to figure me a cheap sex link for next year or something I can easily sex at hatch to seperate for pullet sales. We get more and more people looking for cheap chicks ($4-6) or even older juvies for ($10-20) and I don't want to sell Rhodebars or CCL or Bielefelders for any where near those prices! So anyone with ideas, would love to use something I have hanging around the barn.
Everyone here wants cheap sexlinks too, so I'm setting set up to have my layer flock double for sexlinks. I have a brown leghorn for a roo, and I'm working on barred easter eggers, barred rocks, dominique, delware, rhode island whites & cuckoo marans for hens. In the spring I shall have sexlink rainbow layers. :)

Okay, all the talk about the midget whites has me intrigued...but white birds are a big no-no for me. They are hawk attractants for me. And since these birds aren't That much bigger than big chickens.....uh uh. So, are their miniature turkeys in any other colors?

There is a very rare breed of bronze midgets. I think they were also called brown. They were once owned by the same guy responsible for the continuation of the chanteclers and favorelles up in Canada. I'm trying to get information on them but it is very limited and I don't speak French. Well I do but not the type of French that's acceptable in decent society. Anyway I hope to eventually get some, but I fear they are now extinct. Which is sad.

I will tell you that two of my toms took out a marauding hawk this early spring. Ralph actually went into the water with it. Frankie flew to the other side and then back. I was very proud of my boys. And thankful! The water froze over that night so I had to wait a week for the next thaw but sure enough there was a dead red tail in there.

My younger turkeys will run under things to hide or into their house. We had one girl hiding in the brush to escape a bald eagle a month or so ago. They are smart enough to hide if there are places to hide. That being said I also had a hawk try to take a turkey out of my arms last fall. Bugger got some feather, but so did I. No body tries to take my babies. I think this was the same you male that tried to get in the brooder a few years back. And unless I miss my guess he's now dead and eaten by the crows.

If you have hawk problems its generally smart to encourage crows to hang about. I feed them all the quiters and blood ringed eggs when I candle. Crows tend to harass hawks and steal their food. They do kill their chicks too sometimes, but I think mine get well feed so that doesn't happen. We live in the middle of a hay field. We have rats, moles, voles, and mice. So we Attract hawks. Only ever lost one chicken to a hawk. That hawk is no more. That same hawk tried to take a parrot off my shoulder. I don't feel one bit sorry for him, but I love to watch the others soar. They are so cool.

Oh and royal palms are smaller turkeys. I'm not sure about eating wise as I've been to,d they are gamey but have never tried them. Others would be much more experienced than I in that department. I must know the pencilled palms keep calling my cell phone saying come we are pretty and you will love us. Yes I have voices that talk to me so what. They do have really cool ideas!
