can you ferment regular crumbles feed? I feed that, veggies and fruits and of course table scraps...but would actually like to feed less crumbles if I can.

Yes. I recommend mash though... It's much cheaper and it doesn't really matter what form the feed is before fermenting, as it comes out the same in the end. Except whole grain, that comes out different of course.

Oh the turkeys already have a pen waiting for them. The OEGB will be easy pens to make.

I feed wet feed from day one with my chicks.  Once they go outside they get dry feed.

I'm always afraid a clumsy chick will get too damp and chilled if it gets tromped into the FF. Do you have good luck with it?

They take to it real quick and I've never had one get wet from the feed. I don't soak it. It's more like a thick oatmeal.

So about the same consistency as I use for the smaller outside birds, I'm guessing. I like to keep the feed sloppy wet for the bigger birds... it slows down the gluttony, lol. I'll have to give it a shot on day olds... I have some coturnix that hatched yesterday that I can attempt it with. Thanks!

I don't use crumbles anymore for my adults, just pellets. ALOT less waster there. And I am forgetful too, way too much going on. Maybe until I scale down some more, I will wait on the FF. Will work on the fodder though, since COF pointed me in the direction of reasonable wheat, 20 min from my house!

I always start on wet feed. The love it! Especially the poults because they can eat it easier. Plus I can put my finger in and the poults will peck it off helping them find feed. The chicks cover the wet feed like ants on something sweet. I have to move them to see what's left. Plus they don't kick it out of the feeder like they would with dry. I do have dry in there though, but in a hanging feeder. Doesn't take them long to figure out how to jump up and eat then fall asleep face first in the food. I think the rocking motion must give them a good rest.

Try active dry yeast once. My brain is too scattered to function, but I like my method. Takes an hour if you're in a big hurry (ie you forgot, lol).

I've got some feed fermenting for the little ones now. Glad to hear that several people use wet for the fuzzies without a problem. If I can eliminate crumble completely, I'll be one happy camper!
