You breed to the general TYPE for that breed. So like Lav AM's you follow the general type guidelines since the color is not yet (or may ever be) recognized by the APA

Those high priced birds were UK imports, not american project birds which is why they sold for so much. They didnt fetch a high price solely on color, it was the UK bloodline behind them

Yes, it was a color based price. They specifically say in their listing that they are NOT imports.

Happy Mother's Day to all mother's of little people and birdies alike! :D

I've been distracted for a while and haven't been on, but I'm playing catch-up today. Wow I've missed a ton!

Sah - I am ecstatic that you found your pup!

Aye- have you had any testing done yet? You're in my thoughts and I hope you're doing ok!

Congrats to everyone on the new chicks, ducklings, goslings and poults!

Flocks - I lost my little twin about 2 days after she hatched. I really think she aspirated some of the gunk from the other poult's yolk. She never was able to make any sounds. :(

For anyone thinking about getting midget whites - DO IT!!! I have no experience with mature turkeys, but these poults are awesome! They are super sweet and frantically push each other out of the way to be the first one picked up. Flocks - do they REALLY stay this sweet? They've even won over my indifferent DH.

Question about the turks and their little strutting dances- about a week after hatching all 4 of them would occasionally do the little strut. I was upset thinking that they must all be boys, but now at 2 weeks I only have one poult that struts. Is this one a boy? How I can I tell about the others?

I hope you're all having a wonderful day!

Do you think I might have waited a little longer than I should to lockdown the call duck eggs? Now I have to wipe out the dang cabinet!

When the calendar says "lockdown bottom shelf" on Friday, it dang well means it! At least they didn't have to fall through all three shelves to hit bottom. But Happy Mother's Day to me! There's a third one zipping, a few more call eggs and a few chicken eggs waiting to join them.

Adorable!

So I've decided to put some of my extra chicks up on RBA. I have far too many Part barts and I'm still debating on the brahmas. I have BC, splash Columbian and straight blue brahmas. Might keep the blues since the one outside looks to be a rooster.

Good for you Madam, no need to sit on them or give them away for cheap if you can sell and make some $ back.

FYI........if anyone places an order (paid order not a swap) with our farm, be aware it is treated just like any other order and filled in the order it is received (paid in full) and this swap has NOTHING to do with your order. All orders are subject to our farm's policies.

If you side swap with us, it too is a separate item with no connection to this swap.

No real reason for the post other than we have a number of side swaps and paid orders with a number of swappers and wanted it clear they need to be handled separately from swap items. Separately is PM and or E-mail.

After I fill my remaining swap, these cornish x are getting butchered. Then I'll build a layer tractor and figure out what to do with the turks/ducks. The current building will be the growout pen and breeder birds will get their own coop/run.

Hubby and son spent this morning lining the pasture fence with chicken wire to keep the smaller birds from slipping through...into the jaws of Levi! It took the two of them together faaarrrrr less time that it would have taken me alone. Since they did that so handily, and it's not fun bending with the broken rib, I pointed out a few other things I'd like done that had been on my list prior to the injury. But I've got cookies in the oven as compensation!

Awe sorry about the little squirt. Those are the ones I feel the most bad about.

does this answer your question? I was getting Mother's Day love from three of our girls. Can't sit down without them vying for attention. Midgets are just like that all the time. It's why I chose them. More than any other turkey besides the BBW they will seek out people. Must be genetic from the BBW parentage. How do you like the little happy noises they make when you cuddle them? I hate to say it but I usually count my boys early by strutting. Hens will strutting, but generally only poult boys will strut. I hope that's not the case though. Otherwise the only way to know or sure is to wait. The boys will develop caruncles sooner, their snood will be bigger also. Generally the ones hatched with no discernible snood are girls. It will poke out soon after though. Take picks and I will try to figure them out. Glad you are enjoying them. Now you know why we turkey fanatics talk about how sweet and love able turkeys are. They are awesome!

I have my best hatches that way! Sadly it creates the work of cleaning, but I love the surprises.

So here is the one I think is the rooster. It's the smallest of all the ones in this pen. It's hackle feathers don't look the same as the others do. And it has a red comb and starting to get wattles too.
