The same reason they call Blue Andalusians, Blue Andalusians. That is the way the "blue gene" works. Blue Black and Splash. It would be technically correct as they hatch out at least 50 % blue, 25% black and 25% splash.

It doesn't make sense for those breeds either

Since blue doesn't breed true and produces blue black and splash why name the whole breed after one color that may or may not be predominant based on the pairings made...

Well, I woke up to 2 chickies hatched, 2 pips and the 5th still moving.

Could someone explain to me why they call them Blue Isbars if they can hatch out blue, black or splash?  Shouldn't they be called BBS Isbars?

Good morning!

Congrats on your new chicks! :D

So can you call the offspring splash blue isbar, or black blue Andalusian? Then it would be the proper name... I have always wondered that too. I have only noticed it in the hatcheries, then you see their disclaimer... And I think to myself, why wouldnt they just offer it as BBS. Or just ship the blues like the title infers!!

How big is a blacksnake, diameter-wise, and is it venomous?
Did it get through chicken wire?

I know we have rattlers but have never seen one.
I had to put in 1/2" hardware cloth on every opening. they cant get through that, but can through regular hexagonal chicken wire...they are constrictors so they kill the chicken first then try to eat it but they aren't big enough to eat a 5 week old chicken so it is all just a big waste.

I am in Virginia, so we have lots of snakes but only the copperheads and rattlesnakes are venemous and we don't see rattlesnakes down here in the valley. (they stay more in the mountains)

I always had been taught that blacksnakes (non-venemous) were GOOD snakes because they kept the bad ones away. but I guess they aren't good to a 5-week old chick

Copperhead bites are not normally deadly unless you are a small child.. My mom got bitten by a copperhead a few years ago. she had to be off her leg for 6 weeks, elevated, and it turned all black. very painful, but not deadly.
