Still about 20 eggs to go -- I see three pips at the moment, and one industriously rocking egg :) Plus the four that I left in there just in case that I was 99% certain hadn't developed, but what the heck, right? Plus there's six more eggs still in the turner (off), but theyre not due to hatch till Friday.

MUCH better than my last two hatches!
Firstly congrats on teh babies they are so cute. Secondly I almost spit coke all over the church computer when I looked at the picture. That is one sure fire way to know the hatching has started. I have been locking my cat in my room at night starting when the buttons started hatching so he couldnt get into there brooder and he was fine and any time he started wanting out I knew if I went out to hte liveing room another chick would be in the bator cuase he knew and wanted to go see .
And thirdly what kind of bator is that please?

never had to send eggs here. when they tested for pollurum it was a wing blood test, the AI was a mouth swab. Even had them swab when I was at a swap for AI. Never heard of the egg deal. Here anything 4 months and over gets tested. Last time took over 4 hours. This time???????????

Once I get redone I will be able to send the info to HI, SD and VA.
Thrilled that you are one of the people I can claim from since I have already done it several times!!!!
yes, I lust after your birds.

I think they can test in other ways (swab I think) but they would have to come all the way out to my house to do it. I was just thinking the "sending 30 eggs" thing sounded easier.
As my guys aren't producing any eggs anyway, no rush till they do. I only owe eggs to one person after fertillity is proven which hasn't been yet...so not too big of a deal.

I never thought about it but maybe ill have to offer some fondant toppers in the next backward swap since COF mentioned cupcakes.
Here are a few including some bovine I made for Jim Heinz a while back.
Who you callin chicken?

Wow! You are seriously talented! Any other surprises to be revealed?

I think it is folly that someone will bring in a new bird or juvies and because the seller was NPIP not do quarantine (and in my case local environmental stress test --I tell new birds that if they can't cut the dampness and husbandry as required please knock off now, sorry). The nasty stuff can be carried without notice and by the time you see sickness everybody is in a fight for their life.
I always quarantine. lol...but currently doing it inside the house, which is fun. I have two 7 week old Wheaton Marans right now that are sitting in my living room in quarantine even though They came from a NPIP breeder. I use the time to try to tame them a little and currently they are sitting on a puppy-piddle pad on a folding chair watching TV with us.

maybe it is the dogs' presence, but they wont hop off of it...nothing stopping them!!! LOL

If anyone still wants to import chickens. I would love some of this beautiful breed! They're called Queen Silvia and are Swedish:

Just to add some more incentive, they were developed by the same man who created the Isbar. However, they lay brown eggs and tons of them. Another great thing is that they and are an auto-sexing breed.

Are we now posting here the swaps or PP we sent. I contacted each swapper by PM but would be happy to post here too.

They are either in their tupperware prison or on the chair...they are not running loose on the ground. and if for some reason they poo, I clean it up with antibacterial spray cleaner.

i don't know that this will work on every chick I bring in, but it is working with the ones I've had so far. They feel safer on the chair so they aren't running around on the floor. Weird.

i am sure in the future when I have more than two they will have to be in the basement. hoping to find a kiddie pool once it's kiddie pool weather.
