Got my first pullet egg from one of my BCMs today! It is in extra pen with extra roos... bunch of polish roos and a buff orp roo. Wonder what kind of chick that would look like??

Hatch one out and see! :p

Nothing so far. Still only 2 pips. At least 5 still look like they are moving. Maybe I'll have babies waiting for me tomorrow morning.

Hey Guys and mostly Gals,

I will be away from home most of the afternoon and my evening (late night to early morning for most of you) but when I get a chance I will be sending a PM to each one that I have listed in my book for eggs coming in to me.

This is not a reminder or nag or anything of the sort. Just an attempt at getting my lists confirmed and as organized as can be.... not saying much there.

Think of it as me dropping to say "Hi"

and giving us a chance to make sure that I make as few mistakes as possible. Help is always appreciated here at the funny farm. Thanks.

cyber regards, k/

I posted in the WYGS thread, but I don't know where you all frequent, so I'll post here, too... I found a bunch of 1/2 pint jars of apricot butter, cherry syrup, raspberry jam/butter, and apple butter last night when I was looking for some empty canning jars... Most are dated 2011, but there are some as old as 2009... anyone interested in a side swap for some eggs for the NYDH?? Would prefer LF and cold hardy, but trying not to be too picky since we're getting so close.... I really have to be careful with my budget right now for Christmas, or I would claim some eggs and put up PP...
I could fit 3-4 in a regional rate box A... I suppose the difference of shipping and putting up PP here is negligible, but thought I would see what ya'll say....

I was worried about getting shipped eggs now because usually it's pretty cold, but i't been pretty mild here, so I don;t think they would arrive as egg-scicles, lol

wish I had some that I could depend on laying to send you for NYDH... I would love to swap for some of that!

Same here (but then I don't have any laying at all - dependably or otherwise, lol) Daloora - maybe you could sell some in the "Everything Else" section and use the money from the sales to get some more eggs?

In other news, I don't buy the "facts" on the Norwegian Jaerhon at all and I think they are possibly "factoids" instead. Everywhere I look says they are flighty, difficult to settle down, do their own thing, not tolerant of confinement, not friendly, not docile. Okay well...mine aren't like that at all. They're outside in their coop for 6 days now and unless I go outside and hold them, they scream. All...day...long screaming until I go out there. When I open the door I have one of them that sits on my shoe and just stares up at me mournfully and squawks (it's not exactly a peep it's more like a wail) at me until I pick him up. He then stuffs his face in my armpit...spreads his wings to either side of my arm and just zonks out (goes to sleep) and his sister is the same way; scream unless they have human interaction. They're not skittish or flighty or unfriendly. In many ways, they are 10 times more docile than our 13 year old dog. Oh - and the rooster (who is going to live with cjwaldon soon *cries*) whose name is Lancelot, is already bringing Guinevere all sorts of things that he finds. This excludes big huge beetle-type bugs though. When he finds those he breaks their back and they pop in half, and then he will take one half to her and act like it's all he has (seriously). He hangs around waiting for her to eat it and she does and then he'll sort of sit there with his head down, giving her a guilt trip for scarfing down his present to her. Then the second she turns her back he'll run back and pick up the other half and swallow it.

Ah well, at least he's putting her first and bringing her treats. I was told roosters don't exhibit that behavior until many months into their lives. I guess he's either the exception or the info is wrong (not sure which). He brings her stuff all the time. :) I love love love love love this breed.

You guys have been so chatty this weekend!
I candled my SFH eggs today, and it looks as I have two well veined eggs, and maybe two more... Two eggs have detached airsacs and one started oozing due to a tiny crack. I think the po is being to rough with my eggs. The last couple shipments I have gotten have had detached airsacs. Like almost all of them.
I am super excited for the SFH. My notoriously chicken despising husband even thought they where cool looking. Speaking of, I am trying to write up a "business plan" for him to show that come spring, my chickens *should* provide enough to cover feed and a little additional income. It's such a pain because every time I think I have it right... I realize I forgot a cost!
