Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

hello gentles,
I just wanted to comment on shipping to Canada. They need the NPIP paperwork in and on the outside of the box. You are going across a border so they look at it usually. When I worked for a publisher and we sent books, most of them got opened and paperworked checked I have heard its similar for eggs. Mind you that was several years ago, but I had to be a hawk with the paperwork.

NPIP between states is fairly lax, I don't think it is overseas.

I just want to mention that the foam is not a miracle worker. I have ordered silkie eggs from fowlrus and she shipped in that foam. I got a total of 32 eggs in two seperate shipments and only got one chick. If the post office is determined to kill your eggs, they are going to. Eggs looked great on the outside, but were scrambled on the inside. I have decided I just cannot get eggs safely from her to me. Somewhere in the middle there is an evil post office!!

One thing about the foam is that the eggs travel on their side. It's great for protecting them from cracking but I think would be better if the eggs could travel upright.

I just finished catching up on this thread!

No, eggs travel upright. At least mine do. Also, I'm not sure how fowlrus packs hers bu tI double box all of mine. And they are very well padded.

I've heard rumors about how well your eggs are packed Madam, so you must be doing something right..

I package my egg's so they stay in an upright position and mark the box this side up after that it's up to the PO to do their job and that is the real problem.

Wow! Y'all have been chatty the last couple of days!

I am very excited...I finally received an email from Jenny at GFF saying she is shipping my chicks today!

Please, please let them get here safely!

Some pics just for fun:

Here is a pic of another of the SFHs I hatched from Walli...love the poof!

I was very lucky - only 3 of my Langshan eggs hatched (not from the swap thread), but I ended up with a trio

I don't suppose anyone needs any 4 week old Basque cockerels? I only ended up with 2 pullets out of 8! Now THAT'S my normal luck!

Hmmm..what else? Yesterday's discussion...I feel very fortunate that I have only 4 outstanding swaps (2 from this thread & 2 from another) from the member that hasn't been fulfilling them. I'm still

though! I know it's silly given the things that go on in this day and age, but I try to remain optimistic that people are inherently good and will do the right thing. I know, I know...but if not, this will be the first "chicken person" I've dealt with that didn't fit in my good and honest category.

I use a TerraLUX LED flashlight for candling. I remove the cover for my Brinsea Octagon and leave the eggs in. My flashlight is only 220 lumens, but that is more than sufficient in a dark room. I can see all movement in all but the very darkest eggs. Please be sure that those of you using high output lights are using LED. The other bulbs generate quite a bit of heat and I've read they could possibly harm the developing chick.

I am so unhappy and frustrated right now. I didn't touch anything on my incubator (except for opening it to turn eggs). I didn't adjust the thermostat. It's been sitting between 37.2 and 37.8 for days. And today I got up and it was reading 39.8 and those poor eggs were so hot! I left it open for about four minutes to let some of the heat out, adjusted the thermostat, and got it back down to 37.6, but I'm scared to even leave the room. I think the main problem is the cooler is just too thin and flimsy (maybe it's responding to the outside temperature -- we've been having a mini- heat wave here, for December), but I also don't trust the hot water heater thermostats anymore. And I'm terrified I've once again addled my eggs.

Dang it, I was feeling so confident after my first two hatches went off without a hitch! This was an expensive way to discover I am not properly equipped for hatching on any large scale. And I simply don't have the money to buy a real incubator right now. I just don't.

I'm going to go take a look on ebay real quick and see if there's a used one going cheap or something.
