Congrats on the chick!
I thought I would post a picture of my pets... Nothing exotic...

I am kind of partial to the kid, but I'd be willing to trade (a lot) of hatching eggs for the dog. I am sorry, but he is plain DUMB.

Keep in mind I know next to nothing about chickens and I know even less about Marans. But...this picture is similar to your chick (without the white though) and it says it's a wheaten Marans. I see little itty bitty traces of brown coming in on the body of yours, too. :hmm (then again maybe the picture isn't a wheaten marans either, like I said, I don't know about that breed). I'm getting some wheaten Marans in the Spring though - can't wait.

Does anyone know...off the top of their heads, if wheaten Ameraucanas are related in any way to the salmon Faverolle? They just look so much alike to me. If you pull up two tabs in google images and use 1 for Salmon Faverolle and 1 for Wheaten Ameraucana, hopefully you'll see what I mean.

[Edited to add] I think it's all the fluffy goodness and those beards that are throwing me off. =|

Well, it would seem if it IS a wheaten- it would not be one someone would use to breed. Soooo, free on CL he goes

I wouldn't necessary say that he isn't worth keeping. Post that photo over in the Wheaten Marans Thread and see what they say. I know that mine has changed colors considerably as he has gotten older. The wheaten roosters are so much different looking than the hens it's a striking contrast.

Debs_flock shipped me Campine eggs last Monday. I didn't get them 'till Friday. USPS put a note on the box that they were damaged AND REPACKED! I've never heard of them repacking a box before. You all know they deliver everything damaged, if not utterly destroyed. After careful inspection I could not determine why the box was repacked. Well I candled those eggs tonight and every one of them is growing. All of them. 100%. I couldn't be happier! So what are you putting in their water? I want some of that for my chickens! Thank you Deb!

Thanks for letting me (and everyone, LOL) know. I've had very good fertility reported on my shipped eggs.

I think it's a combo of my "unique" shipping method (that won the NYD invention contest last year - no incubator was offered for that one

) and the girls. More and more I'm coming to believe the fertility of shipped eggs is most tied to the nutrition of the breeder birds.
