Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

I had eggs shipped from VA. The website never updated for 10 days. I called my PO. They found out the eggs went from VA to Des Moines to PA to VA to MD to MD again for a few days then to Des Moines to me. When I called the 800 number they could only tell me what was on the web site then sent a memo to my PO that I complained about my PO. I was MAD. My PO is great.

Quote: Yes, had a box of eggs I sent go to the wrong end of the state (IL). They sat there for two days before they directed them to the correct address. None hatched.

I had a box of chicks go to Sacramento (where they should), get redirected to San Francisco (huh?), then back to Sacramento, then finally to my PO. They were all dead.

Sorry, good luck.

I have a question for everyone.  Have you ever had a tracking number say missent?  It dispatched to sort facility, processed threw USPS sort facility, departed USPS sort facility, and then says missent??????  And now says I am not going to get them til tomorrow instead of today.  At this point im freaking out.  They are chicks and I don't think they will make it threw 48 hours of shipping.  I double checked my address and it is correct.  So it must be a mistake on the shippers end I guess.  Anyone have this happen?

Yes I'm sorry that is not usually good news. I had the PO call me one time at 5 am and tell me you better come get your chicks 1/2 are dead and the rest are dying. After 3 days "lost" in the mail.

I don't want to scare you, just be prepared.

I am waiting on a box of chicks right now. They are supposed to be here by noon but all I have is a departure scan. The arrival scan should have happened by now. I'm worried.

That's wonderful, Brookhavens!!! Congratulations!

I finally broke my candling addiction a few days ago. Managed to break three eggs -- I tripped. On a carpet, of all the stupid things. Never tripped there before, likely never will again -- the one time I trip is when I'm transporting three eggs from 'bator to table to candle, of course. And all three were developing beautifully. Of course.
oh gosh, that sucks.
I have been a fumble fingers lately and dropped 3 different eggs that I was almost done decorating. one just needed to be laquered, I'd already blown it out and melted the wax off and everything. but that is just my time, not an egg that was actually developing.

Congratulations on your new additions, they are precious!
Okay, so I told myself that I wasn't going to candle until Day 10 but I broke down last night and candled the Blk. Orp eggs I received from WVchick71. Out of 12 shipped eggs we have 10 growing beautifully, 1 questionable and one clear!!!!! Super, happy camper here.

YAY, congrats on your development status thus far, I hope it continues and they hatch out nice and healthy for you!

I've never had the tracking information say "missent". It could be USPS at fault as well, and not necessarily the sender. According to my post office they are supposed to initially process packages by zip code and verify the state matches the zip listed on the label. After the package arrives at it's en route destinations, the actual city is checked along with line address (the street, number, etc).

That being said, I had a package arrive very late once, because the USPS sent it to Montana instead of Missouri (package said MO though).

I hope your chicks are there very soon. Do you know exactly what time they were packaged up to leave?
That sucks.

According to usps they never left the state they started in. But it doesn't say where they where when the missent code came up. So I have no clue where they are

So who is responsible if I receive all dead chicks. I have not had many sent to me. But I am guessing they don't survive very well for 48 hours.

Thank you for the info
48 hours I would say they're probably still fine (just my opinion). My chicks from mypetchicken got lost in the mail and were in the USPS care for about 48 hours - they arrived a day late, but they were healthy for the most part (just thirsty and one was a bit wobbly). Granted, that was in warmer weather. =/

With regard to "who is responsible if I receive all dead chicks" - that is anyone's guess due to too many variables to consider. But...most hatcheries and farms have some sort of guarantee on "arrive alive" with regard to birds, or some sort of replacement or discount plan.

I have a pair on the way as well, and they were due today, at this time (between 9am and 10am) and I haven't received a call yet. The tracking information doesn't even show them leaving their home state yet...so I know (somewhat) your worry. I hope yours arrive sooooon; please let us know when you know anything.

Hey you all we are the #1 thread on all of BYC for the last 30 days. The hatchalong is right behind us. They will be passing us soon but today we are #1:lol:
Well, we'll just have to talk more, won't we?

Although I'm not formally participating in the NYD hatch, I do have eggs slated to hatch then. I'm just watching the formal stuff to see how it goes.

I candled yesterday, and all 17 eggs from BHep are growing.

Of course, they didn't get mailed; I picked them up. But still, all of them! Also, the 6 Buff Orps that 202roosterlane sent that ended up in the hands of the kind and gentle postal service for four days(!) still have 4/6 developing, one maybe, and one clear.

Pretty dang good for such handling, I think!

Thankfully, I get to give BHep's chicks back to her and don't have to find space for them!
