I went picture crazy!!

SFH from bhep that hatched last week:

SFH from KYTinpusher that hatched a few days ago:

Sleepy SFH!

Orp from KYTinpusher

Messy silkies from Bhep. I feed fermented feed and it sticks to silkie feathers like glue!

Bath time! I let their feet soak in warm water to loosen up the food stuck to their foot feathers.

Actually, all my "starter" birds were/are from Meyer, too. Good, sturdy, healthy stock with no obvious conformation flaws that I've spotted so far. The NH cockerel (who grew amazingly fast!) had side sprigs on his comb -- a show flaw, but not necessarily a genetic one. He'd have needed to be mated to girls with the recessive gene to eliminate the issue. The two Welsummer poults I have from them are remarkably handsome girls :)

I wouldn't hesitate to suggest them to anyone who simply wants sturdy, healthy backyard layers, who's not looking to show them or sell hatching eggs.

My birds love the fermented feed. They get more out of it nutritionally and there is a lot less waste too. I add organic apple cider vinegar with the mother and let it sit overnight. Some people let it sit for a lot longer but I worry about botulism.. Amazing feather qualities and good for the gut. I haven't had any cocci issues at all since starting it either, so that's a bonus.

Herducks, they're adorable! What pretty little fuzzballs! Now I'm really bummed that none of mine made it....

Fermenting feed -- just search the forum here, you'll find it :) Massively ups the b vitamin content, along with other vitamins and good stuff growing birdies need :) I feed mine yeast

Blame my mother, the health-food nut!

Oh, and speaking of, just from my two hatchery stock girls, I can absolutely say that of the breeds I've had so far (a very small sample!) I think the welsummers are hands down the prettiest-colored. That copper lacing in their hackles, the deep rusty-rose of their breast feathers -- just gorgeous. I love them :) Now on the hunt for really good-quality wellies!
