I just bought stuff to grow fodder... Hopefully it works well and I can cut food costs down. It would also make me feel a lot better about penning up my chickens for breeding. I have $200 saved for building my breeding pen runs, and still need to find pallets to construct the coops.

We have been growing fodder. At first the girls turned their nose up at it, except my RIR girl, but after a week they started to inhale it on sight. We found a 45lb bucket of wheat at Costco for $12.00. I was really excited.

Wow that's great! I wasn't so lucky, only thing the store around here had at the moment was 50lbs of rye for $24. It will still save money though if it works out, and I will keep looking for other things to grow. Come spring I have no doubt the store will be better stocked. The biggest problem I had? Finding someone who could be bothered to listen to what I wanted and look for it. Today, I talked to three different people... Two said they had nothing (I asked for barley wheat or rye) and one finally said they had rye but not field rye. Oh well. If it works, awesome. If not, then I will throw it on the ground and get rye grass and seeds for the chickens to eat haha

I don't know if hubby THOUGHT more pens means more BREEDS.... I need more pens for what I have. BUT some of my pens are going to be emptied for these NEW breeds I have coming if things work out

he feels the same way about silkies too.

Someone hatched one of my showgirl eggs recently. She told her husband what hatched and he screwed up his face in disgust. Then she handed him the chick and he sat watching TV with it cradled in his hands. She wants more SG eggs!

My DH sat and held a new polish chick last night, he considers all the polish to be his!

It's actually been in effect for many years. Lot's of employers don't apply it correctly. Of course, it can be unnoticiable. Some of my employees the increase to their taxable gross is less than a dollar. The tax increase would be pennies per year.

When I look at that picture, the only thing I think is........................."How could I feed/water them enough to last ALL winter so I NEVER have to go out there?"....................I'm always cold. It's a running joke around here, I keep the house so warm all winter, DH wears shorts, T-shirt and bare feet when he's indoors, heavy coat to go out.

I have your eggs going into lockdown Monday! Praying for a SG. If not, I'm coming back for more eggs darn it.

3 of my chicks from this last batch are splay legged :(. Anyone had experience with it? Does that hobble trick work? Do you find that it is normally genetic or hatch related?

Find a local cigar shop and buy one that they sell. They are far better then many you will find and a huge price range too (and can be calibrated too)
thanks!!

only if I put a blanket on the seat 1 st. And only in a chicken emergency. I would say lumber is the strangest thing we have put in it and only a few 2x4's
Ok DH is NOT much of a nurse I just asked him for some pain medicine and he tossed it toward me. I said where is it ? He said right on the floor by your IV pole. And started laughing because it did sound pretty funny.

umm, why do you have an IV pole??

I locked down my 6 eggs. Then, I went outside to give fresh water to the chickens. Come inside, my 19 month old boy is standing there holding two of the eggs, incubator wide open.

No eggs where broken- so I sure hope no damage done

I have our office where the sportsman is locked because our 2year old is OBSESSED with it and the eggs! I've made the mistake of packaging eggs when I thought he was taking a nap and come back to find him "helping" me :/ can't leave anything around in any reaching distance!
