So I opened a claim on PP for the refund on the chicks that arrived dead. 3 that count to get me to the 10 that where in the auction but 15 total sent and only 7 made it. Again no heat pack. Anyways 2 days ago she said sorry she thought she sent the refund already and would sent it right now. No word since then

I am having a harder time filling for the Isbars though. Im torn what to do there. I really want them. But I am almost at 4 weeks. She says they are going out next week. But they also where supposed to be shipped 3 weeks ago. Im kinda thinking she didn't have any or not old enough or something. B/c it is supposed to be 1 roo and 3 pullets. Ugh. I don't know what to do on them.

Stick with the claim. Don't close it at all. She obviously doesn't have time to refund your money. What? All of 5 minutes to do. You can get Isbars from somewhere else: now or eventually. It's not worth it.

I am so happy that the sun is shining today! It has rained here for the last several days and I have a ton of cleaning to do in my coops and runs. Yuck. I really need to bring in a couple of loads of sand to help combat rainy days. Does anyone have any good suggestions that make that much rain easier to deal with?

I'm being a smartypants but yeah -- spring coop-building, they're all going to be 1) on legs and 2) portable.

Second pullet has a little mousture around a nostril. Going to pick up my temp brooder and some Tylan. If anybody has advice on whether I should dose everyone or just those that look a little unwell I'd GREATLY appreciate it! Also any recommends on supplements or meds.

I don't think it's about cheap so much as it is about sheer lazy, honestly. I mean, I am dirt poor right now and so a lot of things are kinda makeshift, but my birds have everything they need -- just not as pretty as I'd like. And c'mon, really -- how hard is it to rake a coop once a week? If you can't afford wood chips for bedding, use straw. If you can't afford straw, use dried leaves (they LOVE dried leaves, I've found!) This is not rocket science, here. Clean(ish), out of the wind, dry. How hard is that? And pick up the **** eggs every once in a while. If there's too many, scramble 'em and feed 'em back to the birds -- you save on feed that day, and they love them!

I have a bench under my roost with trays that I can pull and bring to the compost...so quick and easy! I replace the hay/bedding on the floor pretty often depending on weather conditions. It takes very little time for the number of birds (42 in the coops/runs) I have. I know it's much more of a chore for those with more birds, but still. Don't overextend.

I wish I had a problem with having too many eggs lol! I am not getting many right now, but I still pick them up twice a day.

Same here.  The CXs were just way too much work.  Constantly having to clean to keep the smell down.  I could really enjoy a nice bird to raise for meat.  We take ours up to a menonite family that processes for a good price.  I'm hoping I can get him to process our rabbits too.

YES!!! the work to keep the mess and smell down was HUGE!! I only had 26 birds...I am sooo excited for these and I have the housing to lock them up for a few weeks too that's the best part!! I'll really look into the diet that they should be getting fed as I dont think I want mine eating just milk and corn for 3-4 weeks...

Even when I changed it the last time it was only necessary because it had finally all changed to sawdust and was too dusty for my liking. There was no smell, no flies, etc. The chickens dustbathe in it even. They love it.

It works much better than shavings in the brooder in my opinion.

I guess what I am saying is a couple of $5 - $6 bags have lasted for months. If you can't afford that, pick up some eggs (that are fresh) and sell them for $2 to $3 a dozen.

I will never buy adult birds from anyone.  I would rather take my chance on eggs and hope some hatch.  Who knows what kind of diseases were running rampant there.

Its day old chicks or eggs only and the chicks are huge for me to get from someone...

OK I change out my bedding/shavings 1x a month all year long. I can't take the smell at all..Im a freak..All get fresh pine shavings! all coops scraped and cleaned head to toe 1x month....lol yup freak in fact that's my job this weekend rain, shine or -20 Ive done it in every kind of weather! Costs me 64 a bag x 10-12 bags 1 x a month...

sorry 10 pens...3 of them are duck pens--MESSY!!!
