I went outside this morning and my beautiful blrw pullet from Foley (my avatar) was dead

When I open the coop door there was the roo mounting her. It looks like her neck is snapped. There goes my breeding program! I'm so upset I don't even know what to do right now. I did get 3 pullet eggs from her over the last week. I came in and immediately put them in the incubator, I was going to wait for larger eggs. Just a really crappy way to start my day!!!

so sorry for your loss! it's never easy to lose one and somehow always seems to be a favorite.

Sounds like a good experiment to me! I know in mustangs they found food supply effected gender. I think it was the other way around in that they produced more colts when there was good grass because collts needed to be stronger for fighting for herd rights later.

Anything is possible. It makes a lot of sense.. I'd be very interested to hear the outcome of said experiment!

X 2 Do you know what happened? That is just so freaky.

No...her neck is snapped, no other damage. He was on top of her and she was warm. He was second roo until I moved them at the beginning of the month to their new coop. She laid 2 days ago too. He is rough (I had chalked it up to young roo eagerness) with them but I also wonder if she was of a "weak disposition" in order for him to be able to do that. Its just so disheartening. I've got some other nice breeds that are 9 weeks old that I could breed instead of the BLRWs. I really need to wait a day or so before making any kind of decision.
