Thank you, Debi, for the beautiful Araucana eggs, and the generosity. When she said she sends extra... She meant it! Now to let them set and get up to room temp to go in the incubator later. Hurray!

Very interesting... People who feed fermented feed often claim they get a higher female ratio. Once my hens start laying I will let eveyone know if it works for me.

I just started feeding fermented turkey grower to my chicks about two weeks ago, maybe three weeks. The chicks are growing like weeds! These are the healthiest chicks I've had in a long while. And the smell is very much reduced! I'm going to wait until we aren't dealing with freezing temps to try the layers on fermented feed. It will be interesting to see if there is a correlation.

So I just want to stop for a minute and say THANK YOU to Walli!

I've been trying to sift through and had a spreadsheet that was starting to make me

And instead Walli has been going through and listing them for us.

I've been following that thread for a while, the fermented feed for meat birds. I can't wait to start. I think we may use it with our pigs this year as well if I can convince my partner!

I tried fermenting food a couple times- but it never really started bubbling. I am going to have to read through the forums again and really get going on it.

I do know for a fact that when I started giving my black Dutch hens fodder, they began to give me eggs. I went from zero eggs a month ago to 3 a day. I am much more focused on giving my birds a bigger variety of food, instead of before thinking layer feed was good enough.

Can you post the link to that thread? I followed it for a bit but its been a long time;( thanks!!

I've been curious about trying it, too. I have read through the forums and a few blogs, but I'm wondering how the feed will affect the egg shells. Anyone using fermented feed with layers who can tell me if they see a difference in chicks hatching?
