Any idea what ideal would charge for shipping? It looks like you have to put in a credit card and I was just tryin to quote it out to see if it would be worth it.

dont know about the shipping but I just talked to them and asked if they banded the chicks for identification and she told me they didn"t do that, so if you get the assortment of any it would be a guessing game as to what they are. like the dutch bantams or the wyandottes or the old english bantams, lotta different colors

It says for air parcel post, add $0.15 per chick to most locations. Whether that's on top of other charges or not, I'm not sure.

Silkies sell straight run. Only my pet chicken sexes them and they only run about 65% correct on the banties. But that is silkies not just any bantam. They have name recognition. They are also fragile so expect to loose some.

If it is a mix of banties that's a different story. Can you sell chicks straight run right now? I loose about 1/2 the people who call because they want hens only. I have some people who call every month holding they can magically get all hens from me. Silkies and fcbms only kkthx.

My birds made it! They are fine. I just talked to the seller and he just picked them up. The post office called me to let me know that they had made it.

I went and checked on the broody hen, and there was a fluffy blue copper marans sitting under her one of six that I am hoping will hatch from Donna.
This is my first broody hen. I have a few questions. It was 45 this morning, they are in wood coop, this is her first brood... Should I leave her the hell alone? Or should I take the chicks and put them in the brooder? I closed off the coop so the other chickens won't be able to get to the chicks, and I would love to see what a chicken mothers natural instincts are, but I am nervous about it

Eeeeek! I just called Ideal! I ordered 40 of the assorted Cochin bantams. I am close enough that I don't pay shipping and they were 1.05 each, so my total was $49.00. Hatch date 1-23.

Breezy cold, but otherwise sunny and pleasant day here.

Just got done with the NPIP inspector, nice gal, now to wait for them to file the paperwork and get me my number.

Asked them to look into AI testing to get NPIP AI certified for shipping to those "problem" states.

Find out where to get the tests/cost/where to send them. I am certified to actually DO the tests, but since WI doesn't test for AI, I am assuming they don't subsidize testing for it. Heck, they don't subsidize testing for what they DO require. LOL

I'm very frustrated trying to set up AI testing here in Louisiana. The NPIP program includes testing for pullorum, but AI is separate. The cost is not bad for the actual testing ($2.50/bird for 10% of the flock), but there is only 1 lab in the state that does the testing. They require that the blood be collected by a licensed and accredited veterinarian, but there are no vets anywhere near me that I have found that will help. I could bring them to LSU to the vet school, but they would charge me an exam fee for each bird! The lab offered to draw the blood there for an additional service fee, but it is a 4.5 hour drive one way!

The real kicker is to have NPIP certification for AI, the flock has to be tested every quarter! I would really like to get the AI certification, but this is all ridiculous. Any ideas anyone?

My check arrived too, which means I'm running out the door to do errands, but Clarence and Brandy, THANK YOU SO MUCH! They arrived in beautiful shape. Pics and more details to come but now that they're all unpacked and resting safely in the bathroom cabinet (I know, I know, it's a weird place -- I store my winter squash in there, too...) I need to take advantage of the daylight and get errands done fast and home for a few chores.

I'm very happy they made it there safely! I really like the foam pipe insulator shipping method (was that from Deb - thanks!). They seem so secure in their tubes. I hope they all hatch for you!
