so I guess Ideal is a good place to order from? I have never ordered from them

I have ordered from them.. BR & EE pullets, they fly out of here like hotcakes !

mzstre, for what it's worth I had one suggestion, which would be to stuff the open top and bottom lightly with crumpled newspaper. A couple of the eggs had slid down to the bottom of the tube, but were completely intact and very secure The other thing is the newspaper would give a little extra insulation. But this is a FANTASTIC packing method and worked really, really well! I haven't candled for air cells yet -- I'll let you know how they look when I do

The single funnest egg box I've ever opened! A much more traditional packing method... This one should definitely be called TREASURE HUNT!!!

Me, releasing my inner five-year-old and hunting CAREFULLY for eggs! I had a blast!

And then, after I'd unpacked my lovely eggies from msztre and WVstruttin and gone out shopping, I came home to find ANOTHER box from kraftyladies!

All nested in there all gentle and safe! (There were layers of padding on top of all of these, by the way! I just removed 'em for pictures

)




And there they are, all unwrapped and resting

I start them in the downstairs bathroom which is my "cold room" -- stays about 10-15 degrees colder than anywhere else in the house. Let them warm to that temp, then they come out onto the kitchen counter tomorrow morning to warm for another 4-5 hours before going in the 'bator. YAY!!!!

And the cool thing is, my current crop of chickies will be just about exactly six weeks old when the new babies hatch, so I can move them outside (unless it's bitter cold still) and have the brooder available for the new batch

I dont think they get jarred around as much that way cause they"re kinda floating in the shredded paper

Yep! I counted twice just to make sure -- and then veeeery carefully took out the shredded paper a handful at a time just to double-check I will say the shredded newspaper does an incredible insulation job. Really kept them snug and, if not warm, at least buffered from the cold

SILKIES!!! Lots and lots of silkies!!!!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the OEG, too -- I've never had one so it'll be fun to see what they're like!

Jealous. Would love to have 30 silkie eggs sitting in my house. LOL Here's to hoping my 3 silkie eggs in the hatcher go on to hatch!

Me too, however, shipped Silkie eggs don't seem to do very well for me.

Let me see, this week I have to thank TNBEARCHICK, Mzstre, and Cjwaldon for the perfectly packed eggs I received. I think that is everyone right now. Sorry I didn't take pictures like cluckitall did!

that sucks!!!  sheesh...that IS ridiculous.  why do they have to make it so hard!!!!!

I know, right? You'd think they'd WANT people to opt for the testing and make it a little more accessible.

i"m just curious, but why can"t whoever did your pullorum testing draw the blood for the AI testing, they are supposed be certified by your state agriculture, thats what they do here.

Dr. Barrington, the head of LA's NPIP program, said the vet they're sending for the pullorum testing can't do it. I'm very confused by that. Maybe because the pullorum testing is paid for by grant money? I'm going to contact the vet directly to see if I can pay him on the side to do it so it won't "officially" be part of the same testing.

And I keep trying to get a really good, clear shot of Mr. Fuzzy Feet (who may not be a "mister" at all) but really good, clear shots and my phone camera just do NOT go together. Still, here's the best I could do. His (her?) feet are just insane!




All my cochins have pretty darn fuzzy feet, but... Yeah. Hee!
