Woohoo! My husband brought home a five gallon bucket of spent grains from a guy he works with that brews his own beer!! One more thing to cut down food costs! Between that, free ranging, and fodder... I think I can get my food cost down to $20 a month. At least, until the 79 quail eggs I have in the Bator hatch next week... Then I'll be up to like $70 a month. Luckily, quail seem to LOVE fodder, and once they feather out they will be getting that.

Here is a thread on it.

Basically, I take seeds (I use rye- it was the only thing I could find around here) I soak them in water over night, then drain and rinse. Put them in a tray 1/4 inch thick, then leave them alone. I then start soaking another batch of seeds. The next day, I feed a fodder brick to the birds, drain, rinse, and spread the seeds in the empty fodder tray, then I rinse all the fodder trays I have going in various stages of growing. I have 7 trays and one soak tray. I only rinse them once a day and I grow them in a shelf in my closet. They recieve no sun and no additional water and I have never had a problem with mold.
