COF and all you regular shippers, how do I handle a 40° - 50° temp swing in shipping? I'm in Louisiana and shipping the 13 wk juvies to Ohio. I want to add heat packs for the colder portion of the route, but will it be a problem with high temps here over 70?

If I should add a heat pack, do I attach it to the box? I'm really nervous about the weight limit (8 lbs) also. If my scale is off at all, I'll be over. I have less than an ounce of leeway with the heat pack in there. :/

when it is hot here I dont put in heat packs. Heat kills quicker than cold (usually). When I did herduccks and BM6's box I did no heat packs for that fear. The box was packed with babies though, and had foam pads in the floor for insulation. For two I might add it to one end of the box so they can move towards and away from the heat source in the box. I like to place in the floor under the flap or make a false wall on the side with cardboard and tape the heat pack there.

Good Morning! I always feel like I'm behind when I open this thread!

I finally have combs reddening on my oldest replacement birds. I should start getting eggs this month! We've been having to eat store-bought eggs for several months now, and I can't wait for a real egg again! Nomnomnomomnom!

I actually had to break down and buy a dozen eggs for Thanksgiving baking -- that was awful! Frighteningly enough, five layer hens kept myself and my landlady in eggs quite well -- I suspect there's going to be no shortage ever once we're up to 50! EEK!

I now have two pullets laying -- the only problem is, I can't figure out which two pullets! It's been too cold to sit in the coop and watch. I need one of those nanny-cams!

Still waiting for the seramas to settle in and start laying again. I made them a little nest box but the one who spends the most time in it is the roo! Speaking of, he's a WONDERFUL replacement for an alarm clock What a goof!
