Sitting in a parking lot, selling chickens

Well, at least I have time to drool over birds I can't afford

Quote: If you do it very carefully and the chick is still alive, no. The membrane will probably be pretty dry, so take a warm wet Q-tip and moisten the membrane slowly, being careful not too get the chick too wet.

Thanks Laura. I hate having anyone upset at me, especially if I tried to do something to help them out. I do have someone who wants to pay for shipping and have this person send him to her instead of keeping him. I am waiting to hear back to see if they will accept that offer, but if not I will be sending another roo west.

I am actually considering just refunding the shipping money as well to clear this up.
um, no. you don't need to refund anything. sheesh, woman. you are too nice.
they need to chill.

are mites really that hard to clear up? expecially if they keep him in a plastic tote with nowhere for the mites to hide...

Does anyone have any advice about making a members page on a iPhone? I tried it a month back and it just gave me an error when I was finished. Maybe there's a certain link to use? I noticed members pages are now mobile friendly- so maybe I can make one now

Personally, I get annoyed when I BUY chickens with mites, but its not a big deal... And if someone was to give me anything, I certainly wouldn't complain. I don't complain anyway, since the columbian Cochins I got from dick Horstman had mites but not bad. It also depends on the severity. The Cochins only ha a few mites, absolutely fine... A trio of silkies I got from a swap in September with egg clusters on their necks? Totally irritating! Mainly cuz it makes me am that these people didn't take care of their birds.
I think it is super easy to clear up a single bird or two that has mites, but have found it very hard to clear up a flock.
In your case babymakes6. I'd be thrilled to bits to have someone nice enough to ship me a CCL, go out of their way to meet my special requests. One bird with mites is not a problem at all. If this person knows enough about chicks to know about CCL, then either they are knowledgable about chickens, or are capable of researching them. Makes me a bit indignant for you on your behalf since they are being kind of rude about it.

Here is what they told me last night:

Well aren't they friggin special, to never had dealt with mites. I have special dust baths for my birds, and they free range an dig in sand all the time, and I dust them every few months, and the coops and nesting boxes get dusted with a mix of seven and de... I still have an occasional mite problem.

I've never had to dust mine for mites. I remember as a kid that we would paint the roosts, etc. with a liquid insecticide as a preventative. Is there anything I should be putting in the coop as a preventative? I put DE in their dusting pans along with wood ash and sand. Right now it is so wet here that the only place they can dust is in the sawdust from the pellets in the coop. Should I put some DE in there?

Quote: Good grief....I wouldn't let it bother me, and to have never had mites is a load of baloney. My g'ma used to ask me to do something I would say I might and she would say mites grow around a chickens butt....so I took that to mean that chickens get mites, period. And if she has never had mites, why all the DE? Wonder if that person knows that DE can cause respiratory issues, if you aren't careful with it.
