I need to ship some birds and I'm a newbie at that. When I look online for boxes, I see the boxes but it doesn't show the "straw" looking padding/waste catcher stuff that needs to be in the bottoms. Where am I missing this? I've looked at Horizon and at Boxesforbirds.

Everyone I have talked to over the last month is having extended hatches.  I have breeds that normally pip, zip and are done waiting until day 21 thru 25 to hatch.  I don't know what is going on.

Yup I just went to pull out eggs on day 23 and one chirped at me...sigh. I don't know why I keep having late hatchers and last minute failures.

I have another set coming from BM6, so hopefully I can get at least a good breeding trio from the two sets. :D I am not at all a fan of polish, but those tolbunts are irresistable. :) Today was like xmas though, two boxes, one with 5 tolbunts, 5 paints and 2 chocolate orps and another box of 6 exchequer leghorns. *Sigh* But, hey, if it's any consolation, I'm done claiming for awhile... We just spent a few hundred dollars on the birds (buying new eggs, a new birdhouse, etc) and still need to go grab some more chick feed. It's AMAZING how much those little ones eat!!!

Those are pads sold buy different companies and not commonly used accept by large hatcheries. Pine shavings is most commonly used.
  • Be aware you dont ship anything 72 hours old or older anything but Express mail.
  • Dont ship live birds except on Mon, Tues, Wed.
  • DONT put anything wet inside the box
  • Dont give dry crumble to waterfowl in the boxes.
  • Be aware of the weather where you are and where they are going. Weather delays can lead to deaths in transit

I have Lav Ameraucanas that are 2 days late

They are alive and internally pipped but nothing else yet- so weird.

Plus I have had a lot of late deaths which is strange for me. I'm thinking the cold temps from shipping but who knows

Just ordered the Brinsea Ova 190 cabinet so maybe I will have better results with that...we'll see.

Come on Spring!

Are you using a tabletop now? I am using the brinsea 20 advanced and was wondering if the smaller incubators have more trouble keeping the temp. up in the winter...it doesn't seem very insulated. I never notice it dipping but still.
