I finally got my chicks. Only a few are still alive but it's apparent they won't be for long. I'll be surprised if they make it through today.

I'm numb. I've been so excited anticipating getting these CCLs, and now this. All the grogel cups are empty and chicks are strewn about everywhere in the box, in the cups, under the cups, draped over the cups. OMG, what did the PO do to this box.

Oh, great idea! I'll check. Thanks!

Even if she has some of those air activated heat packs that you use for your back or shoulder, that would work. I had chicks shipped to me at work a while back and really thought one wouldn't make it. It was completely limp and cold and was barely breathing. Someone here had a back heating patch. I put it in the bottom of a round vase we had in a cabinet with paper towels over it so it wouldn't burn the chick. The glass conducted the heat and the air even got warm. I had given up, but the chick was peeping under my desk after a couple of hours.

what is up with the PO??? I sent out two shipments of eggs today...one went to spoiled...got home and checked the tracking numbers and both say:
Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office.

Also says it for a shipment of silkie eggs I am expecting.

Thanks everyone. I'm not having much luck stopping the tears. Over chickens. Hmmph. I have all my chicks shipped to DM because I'm always at work when they come. She does not have an incubator but I think I will invest in another one to keep at her house. But DM is holding them in her hands close to the light to try to warm them up.
hugs. I know how I feel when ONE dies. don't lose hope. I brought one back from being too cold by doing exactly what your mom is doing.

So sorry cj. Someone needs to organize a delivery program amongst BYC'ers, take this into our own hands.... errr... vehicles!

You know, if UPS or FedEx were smart, they'd develop a special chick shipping. The PO is going to go out of business anyway someday the way things look for them.... I know my UPS driver is way more careful and friendly.

CJ, I have been a vet tech for awhile. Besides warming them, rub vigorously, rub and pat and just generally VIGOROUSLY stimulate blood flow. Don't give them shaken baby syndrome, but do rub and pat vigorously, while warming.
