My chickies finally made it this morning.  All made it though 2 look to be iffy.  Got them to drink and put them under the heat so hopefully they will be fine when I get home from work.

I hope everyone else's birds are found and are okay.

Good news, now fingers crossed for the little iffy guys :)

Happy Birthday to the birthday folks! SAH....My youngest child will be 28 later this year. I could be your mom!

I've only been a part of this group since last November. We have been complaining about lost packages of eggs, chicks and older birds since then. For those of you who have been shipping a while...is this new? or is this normal? I'd like to be able to ship eggs and chicks and live birds when I get my flock back up, but I'm not sure exactly how much I want to deal with as far as USPS screw-ups and customer anger.

Someone on here mentioned how they hated the specially cut foam packing for eggs. They said that it holds the eggs too tightly, so that the only "give" is inside the egg. The eggs arrive looking good on the outside but scrambled on the inside. This makes sense to me. On the other hand, on a different thread with show birds, they are recommending that packing material. It's confusing.

What I'm doing is photographing all my boxes as I unpack, and keeping records of how the eggs turned out. Then I'll know for sure what I want to copy, as far as packing goes. I think. I've had eggs come in scrambled, come in with rolling air cells, and also come in looking like I just picked them up behind the hen! We'll see how it goes, I guess. I'll probably ask someone to be my guinea pig and send two or even three packages at the same time, all packed differently, and see how they arrive.

It'll be months before I can ship, and look at me, being worried now! Silly.

I use those foams to ship and I don't believe I've had anyone complain about scrambled eggs. I believe it is all in how you package them. I double box. Foam shippers go into a size 4 priority box with packing material, usually newspaper to keep the foam in place and the eggs. That's if I only use one foam shipper, 2 doesn't need any packing material since they fit snug in the box. Then that box goes inside a #7 priority box with packing peanuts. Someone on here hatched 11 out of 12 eggs, no scrambling there. I have seen people just use the #4 box with the foam shippers and sorry but that's not enough protection for the eggs.

X2! Fingers crossed!

I put 39 eggs in Lock Down last night! They were from Papa Brooder and TNbearchick - Now the wait begins!! I candled before lock down and all were moving, but some had more "moving room" than others. Almost as if they could use another day or two in the incubator. I put them all in at the same time so I put them in lock down at the same time. Hope I did the right thing .... Always something to worry about!

Morning All!

Happy Birthday!

I put eggs in lockdown yesterday, and I can see them wiggling! I made a new basket system, to keep the breeds separate, hope it works better than last time! The down side is that the top of the basket covers them all and can't be taken off without taking off the entire lid, so I have to sit on my hands and not remove a couple chicks at a time, which is the hardest part for me!
Well, I'll make three of us putting eggs in lockdown yesterday. It's going to be a very hatchy weekend around here! I used some plastic pieces to seperate in the bator this time, I have some I want to keep and some I will sell, so I wanted to attempt to keep them seperate too. I have 5 suspicious ones, but I was trying to candle in the pantry with the light off, and it just wasn't quite dark enough for me to say toss or keep, so in they go.

Happy Birthday SAH & Bama!

When I was out filling feed and water this morning to the rowdy teenage chicks, one of my NYE blue orps crowed! It was the funniest croaking noise! He will need a bit of practice I think and will have some company soon as of the 5 BBS orps in that bunch it looks like I have 3 roos, two blue and one black. I'm just so happy to have gotten a nice splash pullet out of the bunch too!
