I thought I would just put this here since there were a few who wanted eggs. I had my hubbie pick up my chicks today on his way home. I can't get eggs, and I won't be getting anymore chicks. Long story short, he does not like BYC. Or the people on it. Hubbie said he thought he was going to take the chicks back at one point. He said loud and clear he won't be selling us anymore Leghorns.
who is this person?

G'evening!! So I had to turn the cabinet bator back on. My darn styrofoam bator doesn't work.

I have to send it back to get one that does work.

And I just had waffles and eggs for dinner. Yum. What's so great about that, right? Well, the eggs just happen to be from my bantam chocolate orps. Looks like the chocolate/chocolate eggs are fertile. Guess I'll do some more fluff trimming on the other 2 girls.
Yum and YAY!!! Cant wait to set chocolate eggs

So. I am a wee bit paranoid and have a bit of OCD about bio security. Maybe this is no big deal, but it makes me nervous. Someone fairly local just posted on a FB group that she is having rare breed hatching eggs mailed to her from other countries "without the red tape", and the cost she's stating is way below the cost for even the import paperwork.

Yay for her, I guess, but without proper precaution....what could she be bringing into the country that could affect MY birds? Am I ridiculous for being nervous about it?
That is so hugely wrong it isnt funny. Yes your birds are at risk if someone visits her place and yours and she has brought something in.

I am confused, the farm/breeder you got leghorns from wont sell to you because of BYC?

Howdy all, got this link tonight from fellow BYCer tdhenson,, is it a place to offer swaps/trades etc??
If so I'd like to offer pure white Canadian Chantecler eggs for Ameraucana or Aruacana eggs, must be the pure blue, no EE's.
My Chantecler came from Greg Oakes Canadian strain in Ontario via Crossroads in Indiana back in 2010 I think, they were originally purchased by Jim A Hall of Hall Family Poultry Farm and then I purchased eggs from Jim. They are a rare breed here and highly suited to COLD winters, which I can attest to as the only chickens that come out on 0 degree days have been the Chante's, while all my others hide in the coop only coming our for a drink from the bucket

They have very tiny cushion combs and wattles so frostbite is NILL. They are beautiful pure white and mine lay white eggs, I say that because someone just told me they'd read Chantecler lay a brown egg. I can't answer why, but mine do lay white.
Anyone in Michigan or elsewhere who'd like to trade??
Welcome to the group

be sure to read the first page, fill out the form, read the first page again to understand the rules, enjoy, did I mention read the first page for the rules?

oh and the swap page is over here for once you get approved to swap: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/733198/paypal-hatching-eggs-chicks-swap

heritage toms can still fly but usually only to roost, after they get fat of course!
mine generally stay in the yard and don't fly off when I let them free range, but during laying season they go in a covered pen
and they will get on your car and poop and scratch it all up!

you could always clip one wing, knocks em off balance and they cant fly...but can still jump pretty good, so your car still isnt safe
