I have a problem. I have an incubator full of eggs that are hatching. I set 30+ and about half have hatched. Problem - humidity is high, but chicks are drying and doing well with the exception of 2 that have died for some reason. What do I do. I can detect a light bad smell coming from the incubator. Should I open and take out chicks then spritz the others down, or check the other eggs to see if I have a bad one?? what would you do??

Something I did last October for my daughter's 30th birthday was fun, and might be appropriate, if you want to give her money but something to open, too. Amy was 30, so I prepared 30 gift bags (got packs of multicolored bags from the Dollar Tree) Each bag had 30 things in it, some with a joke meaning or serious meaning, and some just for fun. There was a bag with thirty small rocks...because Thirty Rocks! and another with 30 lollipops...because Thirty Sucks!...and so on. The very last package held 30 ten-dollar bills, so she could buy the new camera she wanted. The package was the highlight of her surprise party, so I hear. I wasn't there as it was in DC, but I got on-the-spot pictures. People were trying to guess what was in each bag before it was opened. There were silly, but usable, things like 30 pencils or 30 pens, and just plain silly things like 30 tissues. Amy said she'd never forget that. She also told her dad (who did get to go up) that "Mom must have a lot of fun putting this together!" So maybe some version of this. And you can include things like 18 cards to get out of chores, or for 18 movies over the course of 18 months, or things like that. That way the money gets spread out.

Anyway, there's a thought.

What a wonderful, cool idea.  I hope you don't mind if I steal it!  This would be great.
. Of course! That's why I mentioned it!

This is an amazing idea! Thank you!
. You are welcome, but I can't claim it as my original idea. Wish I could!

steam up the bathroom and carry the bator in there so it is warm moist air to do the check on a bad egg and remove chicks. Close and plug back in where you had it

Heated and steamed the bathroom. took in my ovascope. Had 15 live chicks, 2 dead and don't know why, 2 eggs that had gone totally bad- partial chick and lots of stinky mess, and 15 fully formed chicks dead in egg - they had already absorbed all the yolk, and 5 that had died sometime after lock down. They all looked good when I put them in, able to see movement in each egg. I wish I knew what had happened. Half the eggs I had rec'd never even made it to lock down. That's over 60 eggs and only 15 chicks. It seems like all the eggs I have gotten after the weather turned really cold have not done well. I have never had this much bad luck. Makes me so sad to see fully formed chicks dead in the shell.
