My hubby is supposed to be building me 5 Medium size coops so we can split each on in half to make them 10 coops and then tear down the old barn. Right now I have 2 new coops. My old barn is leaking pretty badly now.

It is hard to keep the stalls clean with all the rain and snow.

He thinks I should sell all of my birds then he can tear down the barn and says he will build me a new one. I told him I am not selling my birds and he can build me the coops first then tear the old one down. I know how he is so, not happening. He will say he will tear it down then rebuild me more but, he won't. That is his way of me not having chickens.

Well he has bought a bunch of 4 wheelers, dirt Bikes and now he just bought 3 really expensive guns and I told him you know what don't you dare say a thing about my chickens anymore with all the crap you are buying. He shut up and didn't say a word.

If I was you I would list them on RareBreed Auctions. You will get a good amount out of them and it will help pay you chicken feed bill for awhile. That should make hubby happy and you happy.

I am also trying to go to the more rare breeds and better layers. Tired of the lazy layers here.
Oh. I'd never found that site before. Dangerous...

So, I am wondering about marek's vaccinations...any opinions??

Marek's vaccine only offers protection against a chicken dying from Marek's- it does not prevent the chicken from actually getting the virus.

This is directly from Merck's website:

"RISMAVAC

vaccine is indicated for the vaccination of chickens one day of age or in ovo to aid in the prevention of clinical signs of Marek’s disease, especially flocks exposed to a heavy or very virulent Marek’s disease challenge."

IMO the vaccine is doing us a disservice. When a chicken has the disease (but symptoms masked from the vaccination) we unknowingly allow that chicken to infect others. Without vaccination a sick chicken shows signs of the disease and is dealt with- it does not continue to infect others.

I will if I do not sell them to friends on the boards. I would rather them go to people who will enjoy them and further the project. They are truely beautiful and a joy to own. The Rooster from the LLO pen is a total sweetheart and is like a rag doll when you hold him. He is named Charles. Sadly none of those hens have gotten named lol.

I think DH's biggest problem is that I have a whole bunch of chickens on our other property that we need to sell....lol So I will be bringing them over here soon.

My hubby was like that too when we put our old house up for sale. He wanted no animals besides my parrots around. I must say after I cleared out everything and got down to minimal stuff in the house we had a lot more room. Put the house on the market feb 13 2011. Closed with a cash sale on feb 21 2011. They allowed us an extra week to move. But the move was to a teeny apt. Until the house got built on the farm. So no incubating and no chicks in the house for a whole year. That was tough.

What is an LLO?

We had planned to move to this property at some point. They rezoned though for City schools and fire control. There is not one city fire dept for many miles....... I want to move farther out into Soddy daisy anyway, maybe Salecreek or Dayton. My oldest used to show her horses in Rhea county and Dayton is the nicest of places.
