Quote: I do the processing...I kill ( behead the bird with a very sharp clever, one decisive stroke beheads the bird cleanly, then I have two ways of cleaning the bird. One I can skin it feathers and all...if you pm me I will go into the rest.

To me this is very fast in ten seconds or less the head is still. 2 minutes just seemed like a lonnng time to stop feeling..jmo.only method I have found that I can live with.

I just put some eggs into lockdown. These are local eggs, so no PO to blame, but it was a fertility test and four of twelve developed. Fingers crossed they make it! The houdan eggs...I think a few developed. The air cells on all but three were in bad shape and I think most came prescrambled. Three had air cells in tact, and four look like they will make lockdown. The others have bubbly air cells or the air cell moves freely around the egg. No weeping or smell, so they are staying in until lockdown this Saturday night.

On the bright side, while I was in there I candled the birchen marans eggs. Almost all have spider veining!!! Even DH was seeing it. They may be my first to hatch...

Madamwlf.... yes you can use the tree trimming shears.... as long as they are SHARP! They work just fine. Lopping Shears are what I am talking about.

I'm scared I would be Squimish about that though...I chop like I am taking down a horse! I want no sissy whacks to cause pain and agony! * shudder*

Not worth the work to me. I don't grow out roos anymore either. I give them to the roo guy... he can do the fun parts of processing.

The ones we did process we slit their throat. We have put down chickens and we use a hatchet for that.. I just don't want to chase my meal down

that is why we used a killing cone when processing.
