Good Morning all!

I have some eggs available if anyone is interested.

9 white orp eggs + whatever they lay today, to ship out tomorrow
6 Lav maran project eggs + whatever they lay today, to ship tomorrow (Lav orp roo x BCM hens)

I am really not wanting to swap for eggs at this time, but would consider other non eggs type swaps, or PP

I don't process chickens. We did it once.... I will go buy them cooked for $5 at Sams

Not worth the work to me. I don't grow out roos anymore either. I give them to the roo guy... he can do the fun parts of processing.

The ones we did process we slit their throat. We have put down chickens and we use a hatchet for that.. I just don't want to chase my meal down

that is why we used a killing cone when processing.
We take ours to a Mennonite family that processes ours for very cheap. I need to ask him if he will process my rabbits too.

I have to put down our babies...funny that huh? I am so attached to so many...for so many reasons we all know I have to put one down...it kills me every time... Last time I stood there with her for five minutes trying think of a different way...something anything else. She was our beautiful tolbunt girl,it kills me that they trust me and lay quietly ( I guess that's good they aren't scared)...the end is always the same...deliver mercy. It is fast and clean, sometimes they are almost gone anyway,I pet them and say goodbye, sometimes I cry,

the Roos we eat, well it just isn't the same...i can do that like an 'ol farm girl....ha,guess I am an 'ol farm girl.

I have one lilac turkey out from Sebrightmom. He/she is just laying there very still (I had to help it out the last little bit as it was stuck.) Is this normal, or am I going to lose it? Just checking as this is my first turkey hatch.

I have a question... I think I know the answer but wanted a second opinion really. In my Blue Barred Rock pen I have 2 hens that are about 2 years old (planning to sell them with their other 2 sisters) but my question is about the pullets I have in the pen. They have been laying some not much because of the weather and I have some new BETTER pullets growing out that might be 2 months from laying... the QUESTION is Keep the ones already laying till the new ones start laying or just sell them and wait on the new pullet? I am feeding double the mouths for that pen and that is fine... just really not sure what to do. BTW the eggs are not fertile so I can't sell them anyway

I think that is weather related. These heritage birds are ODD fellows.
I would clean house and only thekeep the best of the choices to finish growing and being fed.

Yep, we do here. I just use them to make stock, or will make soup out of them. My stock taste like anyother stock I would make with anyother chicken. I fact it has a "meatier" favor from using the whole bird compared to just using the carcass from my duels. I just can't throw away something I can make something will. LOL

Whatever would be easier for you. The reason I use the rod method is I'm hanging 3 at a time in the shackles this gives me better control over the birds and is easier on my hands (old arthur in the finger joints). One word of advice I would give to you would be to withhold feed for 12 before slaughter so it limits the food in the intestines. Just makes it cleaner if you get my meaning.

just have to wait and see, but hopefully it is just resting from all the hard work it takes to get out of those hard shells. I promised myself after my last turkey hatch, I would not help ever again. every one that I helped because I thought it was struggling too long/much died....the ones I finally decided to let mother nature take it's course, hatched by themselves, lived and were very healthy, and went on to new homes.
