i have a question? i have three hens and one rooster in a coop. if i want more chicks do i just leave the eggs in the coop and watch to see if the hens sit on them? i have one young hen that does seem to sit on her egg during the day. i collect eggs daily so i have never had chicks before. i dont know how to hatch chicks is the bottom line.

Yes, just leave them in there. After about 14 days or sooner your hens will start sitting on eggs. They become broody and will sit for roughly 21 days. After 21 days you will see them with the chicks.
What type of chickens do you have now? :O)

Good morning all!

My hatcher is finally cheeping this morning. Buff Fav's from Ayeupchuck- These guys are a definite favorite! Can you still sex them by, "If it has any black, it is a boy"?
WFBS from Patty- Dear lord! These guys are as fine as frog hair!!!!!!!!!!!

So with all these really cute chicks hatching, I've had my face planted up against the glass door. DH walked behind me this morning and made a funny voice acting like the chicks. "O-M-G Fred, it's Godzilla! Run for it!" He is so special......

Beautiful day today, hopefully we can get a few more things done around here before the mass shipping out and in this week.

I have to build another large brooder tonight they are growing so fast and we have added so many breeds this year we are growing out about 6 times as many so lots of work.

Well it seems if you pay a fee they can verify you

Looks like they have the ebay bug. Charge, charge then charge again. Ebay just went up to 10 percent final value fee. They now also charge their fees on shipping too. They also own paypal add another 3 percent. so if you sold eggs for $10 plus $15 shipping that is $2.50 plus $1.05 pp So a $10 sale made you $6.45 not a good place to do business. Paypal did that to me too. I bought eggs from a well know breeder. The ad said they were to be shipped right after the auction ended It took the person a month to ship them. They were put unwrapped inside a nest of newspaper. They reeked of smoke and started stinking of rotten eggs right away. Apparently they were a month or more old. Paypal found against me because it was against paypal use policies to buy eggs. Why against me and not the seller, they used paypal improperly too. That was a tough $100 lesson.

As of today, there is a total charge of 3.8% and $0.30 for under 50 listings a month. More than I want to come out of my profit, but at least I get a chance for profit.

Ok, I have not been using FB, like barely, for months. I only have my phone to use it, and I have a couple of "friends" and a family member that post reposts and links and pictures and basically a bunch of garbage, so it was too annoying to look through to actually find real posts. I became one of those people who jut post pictures of my kids, just to keep distant relatives updated.
Yesterday, I actually went to look at Kraftyladies and madamwlfs farm page, an I got sucked into about 2 hours of trying to see who people are, and checking up on old friends. Sheesh. Now i am like, oh, it would be fun to have my own farm page. Better to just stay away!!

Morning all!

Back to work... Got up this morning with aches in places I didn't think could ache! But, garden is in and a lot more chicken stuff is done. A lot more to go... Darn work has to get in the way!

Man I really need an incubator. I bid on one of the Rcom minis and I've got a day and a half to see if I win it if I don't I think I'll end up getting a advance mini.
Though admitted I wish you could just rent an incubator

Oh how I like that idea, especially if you could rent a decent one and not the styrofoam type I have. Although I must admit the one with the plastic shell works pretty well - it's the bare styrofoam one that won't keep temps properly.
