I've had a pair of Mallards visiting for the last week or so on and off. Today its more on than off. I'm thinking I should try to scare them off as they're getting pretty bold now and going right up to the kennel fences. We also keep a free range flock and the ducks were digging through the pine shavings we compost, our birds do that as well. I'm worried about disease, lice, mites etc.
Thoughts?

Someone didn't get the memo that it was springtime either. We're having a hale storm!

to Gablebabble.... here are my choc orps chicks from my GFF breeders- this should be what you should have on hatch- all of mine look just the same. Well... minus the silkie- he was too small to keep with the LF chicks. All banties get their own tote

I love them, they are so sweet. My older breeders wait at their door for me to get them. The juvies that are 4 months old are just about that way. The chickies are just wonderful and always hyper.

But that's how you get your compost turned! LOL All our birds except our geese dig through the composted chicken poop, turkey poop and horse poop. Compost done right heats up and kills things in there. Mites and lice will look for a new source to feed off, but the MICE and RATS will love it. Eeeewwww! Than the chickens find the rodents and play keep away. Honestly I don't worry about it. They will always find something I think is absolutely disgusting and eat it. The ducks do an awesome job digging out grubs from the horse poop too.
