Question- Mealworms. If you get in a couple of kits and they are all dead, is there a chance the eggs might hatch? Or should I just throw them all away?
Did you have the mealworms a while or did you receive them all dead? Did you have beetles?

If these are ones you had for a bit, had beetles then yes the eggs can and will hatch. I forgot about mine once and was going to through it out. Except the bottom started moving with tons of tiny mealworms.

Just got them in a mail today. Cut open the bag they were in and all of them are dead. Worms, beetles, pupa, everything.

one yolk. Was she trying to wrap her eggs for me? Something I will have to keep an eye on. If it happens again or we get more soft shells I may have to build some trap nests to find out who laid it. It could just be an oddity though as I haven't seen on like it before. Could be one coming into lay or getting done laying.

Be careful! SFH are addictive! They come in so many pretty colors and you never know what color is going to hatch. Two chicks that look the same at hatch can end up feathering out quite differently. I have decided I need to collect all the colors.

I have the reds, blacks, and splash that are laying now, and blues, chocolate and mille fleur in the younger birds. I have 12 in the main flock now, 6 ready to be added shortly, and a few more in the brooder. And I am getting eggs from at least 2 other breeders shortly. I am hooked! They are very friendly birds and excellent foragers. Mine are outside foraging everyday, regardless of the weather, so they eat much less than my birds that don't get out.
