We have never had any turkeys but we are thinking about getting a couple. Could you all please tell me what a Royal Palm x Golden Narraganset would look like??

Thanks! When I had all those chicks hatch, my heart melted and I remembered why I began doing this in the first place.

It just took some perspective.

I've come to realize, I will never get rid of raccoons completely out here, so the next best thing is to beef up my pens more to try and prevent this from ever happening again.
See, things get positive. Everything in it's time.

If I could afford to send you a bunch of live traps, I would. We keep ours loaded up with those dollar store honey buns, that cost a dollar a box. I guess coons and opossums do not have good taste buds. It works like a charm, they cannot resist it for some reason. We are on 138 acres, so I understand your situation. Four Pastures, large amount of woods, and all the pastures are lined with a tree wind break. All behind the large barn and house is a fair amount of woods. Well here, satellite view of most of our farm:

The larger heavier wire should do the trick. I hope you do get it worked out though. You do have a passion for the birds that should not be wasted.

** Gah, I'm always missing the buttons and Cot's lately...

I really have no idea, this is my first year breeding them and I haven't kept any of the poults I have hatched out....maybe someone on here that has claimed them and hatched has some pics....

Thanks for the encouragement! When we made our chicken runs, we tried to keep raccoons in mind, but they are really smart. Yesterday, I was talking to a guy at work about this and he said to use marshmallows. I'm going to get some and put them in the live traps we have out.
or try raw chicken....they seem to like that

Okay. I just wanted to share a story with you all. As many of you know, I had a fiasco with some raccoons. I had basically given up hope and was at my wits end, but was surprised yesterday and this morning with some beautiful chicks. Here is the part that really warmed my heart. When I got my Crested Cream Legbar eggs from CPL, one had a very strange air sac. In fact, it looked like this picture:

The air sac was on the side of the egg instead of the top. I set the egg and figured it was hopeless. I left it alone, though, with the rare chance that it would make it. When I candled the eggs right before lockdown, the air sac was still on the side of the egg. There were 9 CCL eggs total. When I woke up, there were 7 CCL chicks in the hatcher and 1 egg pipped. That last crazy air cell egg wasn't pipped yet and I figured it was useless to even hope for anything. Well, about 15 minutes ago, a small pip formed in the egg and literally a few seconds ago, a perfectly beautiful little chick emerged. In fact, it was so eager to get out that it even beat the other egg that was already pipped in getting out! That one is still trying to figure out how to get out of the egg.

I love how God steps in and gives us some hope even in the darkest times.

It's okay :O) Missing stuff is sometimes a good thing. :p I actually have quail hatching from her today, as I type. I should assess what I have before getting more. Would that qualify me as a quail hoarder?
