I am starting to feel like queen of the Roos  Out of three EE that I hatched, two boys. Three w/bw ams, two boys. I am under the suspicion that out of five birchen marans I have one, maybe two girls. I have a little hope because one of the boys has a HUGE red comb and wattles. The others are smaller, but big for five weeks old. Anyone have experience sexing marans? Do the girls have relatively large combs?

Just wanted to let everyone know that the girls will only be laying for a short time yet. Midgets are good layers and these girls have been awesome, but their season is running out soon. Which they are showing by piling four to a nest box on one egg. Me thinks I have some broody girls a starting. Lily will be starting up soon and the other two young pullets will continue to lay for a while, but that limits the genetic availability that I can send. Plus it only will provide three eggs a day. So if you are wanting to get some midget eggs its now or next season. I should have young girls laying in early fall, but I'm not on the big kid list yet, so I can't offer them. Although I think I may have met all the requirements. I'm still not one that likes to count my eggs before they are laid. I plan to add at least one more genetic strain to the soup before the end of the year which will leave me with seven unrelated for at least five generations. I hope everyone ends up with a good mix for themselves.

Depends on the line- Davis girls tend to have larger combs.

Oh and royal palms are smaller turkeys. I'm not sure about eating wise as I've been to,d they are gamey but have never tried them. Others would be much more experienced than I in that department. I must know the pencilled palms keep calling my cell phone saying come we are pretty and you will love us. Yes I have voices that talk to me so what. They do have really cool ideas!
. I just sold off all RPs and BRs. I know I'll get another breed, and was thinking Narragansetts, but I like the idea of the smaller turkey since there's just the two of us these days. But white .......

Quote: I'd have to look it up, but from memory the standard on Palms is 20ish pounds and Slates is 30ish pounds.
