Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

I really like that idea. My sna-foo was a knee jerk reaction to pure greed for orpingtons, lol. started doubting my request, even as I hit the submit button, But thought I would be considered a welsher if I removed my claim/ and offer.
Question: What happens if the claimer doesn't received the eggs promised? How's that dealt with?

What can be done, it's hard to remove someone who has already disappeared ,

What do you think about limiting the time eggs can be offered? None of us can tell the future and what's going to happen. Offering eggs for Fall is really pushing it. Heck, mid to late summer is pushing it too. So I want to get everyone's opinion since this is everyone's swap here.

So my opinion is maybe a limit of 2 months. If you can't get the swap out in the 2 month limit then it shouldn't be offered. With some new breeds popping up, most of us don't even know when they will start laying. I mean, how long does it take a Barthuhner to mature and start laying?

I'm not trying to chase anyone off. Just trying to keep it under control a bit. I mean, there are some swappers who may not get all their swaps out before Spring is up.

So what is your opinion?

YES!!!! I just accidentally posted on the swap thread instead of here on the same subject.

Actually, I'd even suggest we can only offer eggs from currently-laying birds. For myself, from here on in, that will be the case -- I won't be offering eggs until the girls are already producing and fertility-tested. It's too easy to think "Oh, they'll be laying within that two months!" and then find out you're wrong. Or find out the fertility is awful (fuzzy cochin butts, anyone?

Quote: I would surely come back to swapping if this was done,,,,,as it stands now I just can not say if i want eggs 6 months down the road,,,things change to much in that time frame,,,,some of my spring eggs have come in and I gave them to local friends to hatch simply because my plans have changed.

Thank you. I do agree with this and think it will keep the swap more exciting in the future. I don't blame anyone for what happened, it gave us something really fun to do during the winter month's, but now the swap is quite slow when our chickens are laying the best.

Question on this one. Last picture, does that chick have vulture hocks????

Yes it does appear in that picture tohave vulture hocks

I need some serious help with hatching. I have a 1500 incubator that works excellently- 99.6 degrees and 40-46% humidity; about 98% of eggs go to lockdown. My brooder is a second-hand GQF 1500, which holds steady at 99 degrees, 60-67% humidity. BUT, for some reason I can't figure out, very few of the eggs actually hatch, or even pip. I wait several days beyond hatch date, and when I open they eggs they are fully developed. I'm really discouraged. Right now I have 60 purchased eggs and 300 bobwhite eggs in the incubator, and I need to figure out what's happening before they're due to go to lockdown. Any suggestions, ideas??
Never ever go by the manual, they have a midline setting that sorta works for "some" areas. I agree humidity was way too high during incubation

I agree completely............... if a flock has JUST started laying, then in the next 2 months time spread you "should" beable to get eggs out. Winter of course messing with that some. I am getting rid of abreed, and had to make arrangements for the eggs claimed from them. Also give the swap claimers a choice on if they want pullet eggs or want to wait for larger eggs when they first start laying and you confirm fertility.

I like this idea...don't swap what you don't have. Nobody has stiffed me on a swap, although I have gotten some that obviously hadn't been tested for fertility. Luck of the draw when people are trying to get claims out as quickly as possible. But it seems logical to swap what you have, rather than what you expect to have. It also keeps swappers from holding on to the breeding stock they'd prefer to sell off. "As soon as I get all my swaps out, I'm selling this breed" has been seen more than once on this thread.

Guess I should have phrased it different... You did answer the question I asked - they get removed -
What I was asking was more to the point of...If they're still here, on the forum, and don't honor their promise of eggs what happens to them.
They get suspended from swapping until they do.
