Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

Since I'm waiting on over 20 dozen "spring" eggs due me, some swaps as far back as September, some form people active on BYC anymore, and some from people now banned. I've seen people swapping breeds for current shipment while I'm still waiting for my eggs, and posts from people saying they're disbanding some breeds I'm still waiting for. The previous discussion on this topic pretty much ended in "spring doesn't end until June 21 so you have to wait until June 21 before swappers are in default." Some people I have PMd but they are ignoring my requests. So I will wait until June 21, but then every last swapper who still owes me will be reported. I will not claim future eggs anymore. I support the 2 month restriction.

I also think it's not fair to ask the person you claimed from to change the swap. "To ship tomorrow" means that, not shipping in two weeks. If you can't take the eggs tomorrow please don't claim them. There is a reason for "hens choice". Please don't ask for specific breeds/colors if you claimed a "hens choice".

Totally agree.

OMG, but you are from Pennsylvania…where I lived when I was a kid, black raspberries grew wild! And I honestly have always preferred them to the red kind…too fragile. Mom used to give us a bucket and send us off for hours…and the bucket never got full for some reason…LOL and wait a minute…you are only 25? I always assume everyone is my age. Gotta stop that. LOL

I know, right? I just got a juicer and ran out of veggies over the weekend to juice so I juiced watermellon/apple/lime with a tiny bit of ginger and OMG was it good…I love fruit…

I have never had a problem with my birds wanting to go back to their safe place at night. YMMV of course but I think it’s instinctual. Okay, maybe in the middle of a snowstorm they might get confused, or if they find what they think is a great place to go broody…GRRRR….

Well that is a lovely surprise!!!! Sounds like you have some hearty strong chicks!!!

So this weekend was sorta crazy here. We got our new Livestock guardian dog…trained up by our goat breeder. She’s about 9 months old now.

Good news is, she seems fine so far with the chickens, which is what I was seriously worried about, having never been around free-ranging chickens (and two of ours have babies right now.) We did spend the weekend bolstering the defenses on our grow-out pen which previously was just made from close plastic mesh. We covered it with metal welded mesh. But OMG…since it was on a hill we had to cut the bottom off of the whole bloody thing to level it out so it wouldn’t look stupid…and I don’t have the hand strength to cut that thick of wire so DH had to do it. But we were told she was a chewer, so…

And I am so not used to WANTING a dog that is dog-aggressive. I have only ever wanted the friendliest dogs before so I don’t know how to handle her. She has been uprooted from everything she knows and I thought working in there with her I could evaluate and make her more comfortable but instead she decided she wanted to guard me and DH from the goats!!!???!!!

Then all night long she barked and barked and barked. And this morning we found her out of the fenced area…turns out she can go right through the electric fence. She did it several more times while we were feeding and watering everyone.

This is turning into a disaster. All our fences are constructed the same way and if they can’t hold her then we are screwed.

I think the limit is a great idea. I can honestly say that I would never have dreamed that I would have felt so overwhelmed with getting egg swaps out to people as I do right now. If I had any idea, I would have not recommended it, nor would I have offered as many swaps as I have. Lesson learned. But I am fulfilling my swaps, either with the eggs claimed, the offer to switch to another breed, or paypal. And I will not be getting rid of any of my breeds until all swaps are cleared up, switched, or whatever. I have had a lot of things happen the last few months, that have changed things in my life alot, but who knew? I have a cpl breeds that are almost a year old, and I have only had 2-3 eggs tops from them. Didn't expect that either.

So if you haven't heard from me, you will, or if you are worried that you have been forgotten, PM me, I will answer you, but might not be in the time frame you deem necessary. Life happens.
And please, if you want chicks instead of eggs, I will not be shipping any until fall, and the difference in cost will be at your expense, not mine. Please don't be offended by this, I have done the math, and I simply cannot afford it.

/love.

The pressure and upset for people on both sides on what was supposed to be supportive fun is the main problem.

So it looks like everyone agrees with limiting the time on eggs offered. I'll let the discussion stay open until tonight and we can go from there but it looks like we will be putting a limit.

Yay! Eggies all locked down. I'm nervous -- I'm trying a few things that are different this time, which is always a bit scary. The peepers were the olandsk dwarfs, of which four were already pipped! Everyone else looks like they'll be a while yet, luckily :) Oh. Ugh. Just realized I put the ODs way in the back! That was dumb. BRB!
