So it looks like everyone agrees with limiting the time on eggs offered. I'll let the discussion stay open until tonight and we can go from there but it looks like we will be putting a limit.
You are just a baby! 25 is nothing. I hit 50 this year. Yes, I am a 1963 year model and proud of every minute of it. LOL You can't have a midlife crisis yet! You are just starting your prime years. Up to 25 you are just learning. After that comes the time to enjoy what you have learned. And, yes, I'll be 25 in less than a month. I was shopping for the kids swap and mothers day and started thinking that my nephew soon had to be shopped for... then it hit me, his birthday is my birthday and I'm going to be 25! Laugh all you want, but I almost started crying at Walmart. And I'm usually the levelheaded one. Mom actually asked if she was talking to my sister or me, because it's not like me to fret.
Since I'm waiting on over 20 dozen "spring" eggs due me, some swaps as far back as September, some form people active on BYC anymore, and some from people now banned. I've seen people swapping breeds for current shipment while I'm still waiting for my eggs, and posts from people saying they're disbanding some breeds I'm still waiting for. The previous discussion on this topic pretty much ended in "spring doesn't end until June 21 so you have to wait until June 21 before swappers are in default." Some people I have PMd but they are ignoring my requests. So I will wait until June 21, but then every last swapper who still owes me will be reported. I will not claim future eggs anymore. I support the 2 month restriction.
I also think it's not fair to ask the person you claimed from to change the swap. "To ship tomorrow" means that, not shipping in two weeks. If you can't take the eggs tomorrow please don't claim them. There is a reason for "hens choice". Please don't ask for specific breeds/colors if you claimed a "hens choice".
They are beginning to wind down a bit right now. We are down to eight eggs a day currently. Depending on who's still laying if they go below say six eggs a day with mostly same genetics laying I will get concerned about too much inbreeding. This happened when the UW had possession of them and some individual breeders that took the stock in have did much work to correct the problem. Others not so much. Too much inbreeding leads to severely reduced fertility very quickly in this breed. Happens in all breeds, but because it did happen and I'm lucky enough to have them I get a little protective. If I know people will be keeping for breeding and not just eating or selling them I want to ensure they get a wide range of genetics. Im working on securing another set of genetics and have a lead on one more. yes i know whos who and who mated who and who laid which egg. These are like children to me and yes I'm weird, but hey I'm momma!
As for shipping poults I'm really nervous about it. I would need some major input. Newly hatched poults should not get wet. A wet poult is a dead poult. Wish I could set up a turkey train. Send me a PM and we can see what we can work out.
. Brandi here's my naughty little girl.![]()
and here's one of her brothers. See the difference in the snood. I'll get the head angles later so you can see the rounded for boys and triangle for girls.![]()
