Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

I am hoping my swapping friend can give me some advice. I have my Buff Orpington eggs in lockdown from my first swap on the old thread and the very first egg to pip looks like it pipped through a vein. It has been like that for 24 hours now and it is still chirping and breathing (little fighter) but it is not getting any further along with getting out of the shell and I am afraid it is started to get cemented into the egg. I just checked and no more of the veining has been absorbed. Is there anything I can do?

Little Solo my only serama to hatch from crazypetlady, the other two didn't hatch and my last tolbunt from madamwlf didn't make it through lockdown.

They were iffy to begin with as they had ruptured air sacks, maybe I should have hatched them upright.

Well I've got tolbunt from crazypetlady in the spring coming, I'll try again then for them..but maybe search out some seramas to hatch and finish out the year.

If you keep them upright without turning for the first 5-7 days there is actually a chance the air cells will reattach. On the side with detached air cell has very little chance of hatching I think. But congrats on the one you have, adorable!

It might be too late for this, but you can take a wet q-tip and moisten the membrane around the pip. You can *carefully* peel back a small piece of the shell next to the pip, any bleeding at all and stop it with a dry q-tip and then re-moisten any exposted membrane and put it back in. You should be able to tell if it is shelacked or shrink wrapped. If the membrane is very white and dry it might be but no way to tell unless you take a closer look...but keep in mind doing anything to an egg mid-hatch is very risky and could end badly. You can also search for 'helping a chick hatch' there is some really good info & videos available...good luck.
