My monthly egg swap with cjwaldon hatched. I can't believe my luck. Wait, yes I can. 3 NJ pullets and at least 7 roosters.

Can someone explain to me in a bit more detail how the actual swap thread works? I read everything but I'm still a touch confused. If I do not have any hatching eggs, but I see one of the two breeds we're after on that thread...can I pop up and say "mine, offer 20pp" etc?

I know I can't participate for another 2 months since it says I have to be a member for 3 months before I join - but I still would appreciate clarification so I know what to do when the time comes.

Yes, I do not have any hatching eggs at the moment either, I claim the eggs, then I offer paypal, and someone else claims the paypal...as a new swapper each of your first 7 swaps have to be verified as completed before you can do the next one. After that you can swap unrestricted...does that help?

Most of the other threads that allow paypal require that eggs must be the first offer, and paypal can be offered after that or if the thread stalls. I think this is the only thread where paypal can be the first offer, that's why those of us who do not have eggs can participate

Now I think I'm even more confused. lol So if I see a breed I want and I say "Mine, offer 20 PP" - then someone else aside from the eggs (that I claimed) breeder -claims my PP? Then how does the person with the eggs that I want - get any PP? We really need a scratching head emoticon/smiley. lol!!

Also - you joined 8/2012 but you're able to participate in the swap even though it hasn't been 3 months since you joined...but two months. How? Are there exceptions to the 3 month rule and if so - where would I go to do that and/or who would I need to speak with?

Thank you for answering me and trying to assist me. My brain is going in circles with the whole "another person claims your pp" except the person I offered the PP to for their eggs - I'm totally lost on that aspect.

The way I saw it explained is it's like a chain, for example: I offer $15 pp, you claim it and offer 6+ hatching eggs, person x claims your eggs... so I send $15 pp to you, you send 6+ hatching eggs to person x, etc, etc... so we all get to take advantage of what other people have to offer. If 2 people have something they each want, they can do a side swap if they're not able to claim on the thread.

My understanding of the 3 month situation is that for a time the rules were changed so that people who had 7 swaps verified could swap, that rule was recently changed to include being a member for 3 months in addition to having 7 swaps verified (the rules have changed a few times since the swap started, whatever is on page one is what the current rules are)

Anyone correct me if I am wrong...

I was participating in the swap prior to when that rule was put into place so I was 'grandfathered' in. There were a couple of us.

The whole idea of the swap chain is that essentially everyone gives value and receives value, Person A makes an offer. Person B accepts the offer and makes their own offer. Person C accepts Person B's offer and makes their own offer that is accepted by Person D and so on, and so on. You don't necessarily give to the same person who gave to you, but everyone gives and receives something so it's an equivalent exchange of value.
