ok, thanks for letting me pick all your brains.. still pondering how to do the incubation.....

Those of you that put your eggs in a different place for lockdown, is that because you stagger your hatches and so you have other eggs that need to stay in the incubator still at the lower humidity, or is there another advantage?

Sometimes staggered. Mostly I hate to take the turner out and mess with that and then get the eggs back in and temp and Hum. back up etc. I don't have the cabinet models just the s-foam Genesis so it is not a big deal for me.... no kitchen counter space left tho. Would put a house with room for better incubator on wish list, followed by nice cabinet model and cabinet hatcher. Wishing hasn't done much good yet, neither has the lottery ticket once in a while...... Now, I suppose if I wan't feeding so many chickens??? maybe =:~)

Here are this week's current standings as of 1:00AM, Wed. Oct. 24. For all potential new swappers, we welcome your participation, but please read the rules on page 1, post #1 of this thread.

Starting at noon (12:00 PM EST) today, we are going to start a new game to help keep everyone within their allotted swaps and give an opportunity to win special prize eggs from CPL. (This game has been approved by CPL) Whenever someone goes over 7 swaps, they lose 2 swaps the following week. The first person to catch it and post "Jinx"- (name of person going over), gets an extra swap in the current week. If crazypetlady (CPL) goes over, everyone gets an extra swap that week, and the first person to catch her and post "Jinx-CPL" gets a special prize of eggs from CPL. Start stalking!

OK, let me see if I can explain this better. Below is a list of the new swappers that still have to complete their initial 7 swaps, so are limited to one swap at a time until each one is verified. Once you have been cleared by crazypetlady, reesepoultry, kraftyladies, or coffeekittie for another swap, you may claim another, regardless of what my list says. I don't keep track of whose swaps have been verified, just the swappers that need to have that done. My list is only published once a night, but your swapping status may change a few times during the day. Once all of your 7 initial verified swaps are completed, your name will be moved to the big list. I may not have everyone's name here that is already swapping, but all new swappers will be added here until I hear differently. As long as all your previous swaps have been completed and verified, you are good to go! Happy swapping!

Yes I have eggs at all diff stages in the bators I use just for incubating, then I transfer to one that I use just for hatching when its time for lockdown. I was using a Top Hatch to hatch in and it worked really well at first, I liked that I could put the entire thing in the dishwasher afterwards, but I had it in the same room I was using to incubate and the humidity was affecting my other bators too much, so I moved it to just outside the door and now I cannot keep the temp constant. Soooo I now am using one of my HB Genesis as a hatcher instead.

WOW!!!!!

I just finished catching up on all the swaps I missed out on the past few days.......my head is STILL spinning!!! So glad I wasn't in the middle of all that, lol. No telling what all I'd have been claiming.

On another note...I just gotta give a shout out to Sebrightmom-----I am truly amazed. Six out of the seven eggs she sent me are all developing!!!!

I have had LOADS of eggs shipped to me by various people, with good results on most. But I have never had this many from one group to develop. All I can say is her roos must be doing there jobs!!

Will be watching for more of those eggs for sure.

Nobody wants my eggs...

All right... I just got back into poultry from a 5 year break while I went to college. When I left, it was impossible to keep up with the demand for Buff Orps and Dominiques. Now, not so much. I can sell all the hens and pullets I want to here in the area and they go like hotcakes, but nobody wants hatching eggs or roos.

Serious question... This is the part where I find new chickens to focus on... Any suggestions?

I have some pure Greenfire lines Coronation Sussex chicks and SQ Silkie chicks from Catdance lines and from CJ Silkies in the brooder. I also have some bantam cochins that are growing out. I just sold all my adult ducks. I no longer have any project campbell/rouen crosses, and also sold all the ducklings that I didn't want to keep. Out of around 40 ducklings that I hatched, I kept 8 pure campbells (3 white, 4 dark, and 2 khaki). So, I hope to have some eggs from them in the spring. The Pilgrim geese aren't laying since it is fall and I already have a waiting list on goslings once they do start laying in the spring... I have some SQ Buff Orpington chicks and hatching eggs from Greenfire Lemon Cuckoo Orps, Greenfire Light Sussex, Hink-jc Lavender Orps, and more Greenfire/Presley Coros coming in the spring, but that's going to put any eggs from them into next fall... Any other ideas?

I am trying really hard to focus on bantams myself. Though I could not help myself and have swedish flower hens as well.

I can't wait for you to be able to start offering those silkies and bantam cochins! I have indian runner ducks and welsh harlequins myself, they are just hatchery stock I purchased for the dogs for herding. (The dogs are very happy!)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions on breeds to keep. Looking forward to my current birds growing out, current eggs to hatch, and spring eggs to arrive!
