Hatching Embden/Toulouse cross

Hello, I've hatched this type before but I have a question to anyone who can help me. I have a broody embden goose ( which pictures will be posted) that's laying on cross bred eggs but sometimes they don't hatch which is understandable it happens but I they seem to die a day or 2 before hatch or close to that. I was wondering is it cause of the sizes of the parents none have dewlaps and don't weigh over 12 to 13 lbs. someone help me figure this out. Thank you
