Hatching journey - my silkie babies

Absolutely, although I might have to do a minor assist on the white one as she's a bit stuck. Going to give her a while yet though. Dying to get my hands on them :jumpy

Have you had any movement?
Well my silkie eggs are only at day 11, so about half way through. 13 of the 16 look good. Threw one away that was obviously infertile. I can see the little embryos moving in the others when I candled them. 2 have saddles and are sitting upright in cartons. I just removed the water from the incubators yesterday as I was worried the humidity was too high. Even with dry incubation my humidty is about 45-50%. So we will have to go with that. The breeder recommended 60% which seems high to me after reading everything on this forum.
Candling again at 14 days and hope to continue to see progress.
Good luck with your little white! :)

I love your brooder set up. The chicks are so sweet! Anymore hatch besides the three? How do you like the Brinsea brooder plate? I bought one too, but have never used one before.
Congratulations on your littles!:love

Thank you! They love the plate - they are just sleeping loads at the moment right under it. I think it's fab - I have 2 types so might do a review on here soon. Tip though, if you have different sized chicks, do an uneven tilt - back lower than front for example - it helps them all find their sweet spot. No more hatched from that batch. I had to assist little Gyoza (white silkie) as she had a sticky mess meaning she couldn't turn and so couldn't zip, but it went really well and she is happy and the biggest of my trio.

I did my eggtopsies (I forgot pics sorry) today after determining they had either passed or needed some assistance. All 4 were malpositioned - very strange. 2 had head in small end of egg, one facing away from air cell and another with wing under head - sigh. Only one had internally pipped. Any ideas on why that would happen - all same breeder - surely it's not just bad luck?

Anyway, I have another batch due on Tuesday - just 4 of them - and so they went into lockdown today. If I get some pips/hatches - I will get either another stream up of do a split cam on the current one. I also set up an Instagram account for the new babies if you're interested (I have nothing else to do during lockdown :lau )

Oh and as for inc humidity - I go by weight and only add water if they are ahead of schedule on candling days now. I had too high humidity for my 1st inc and both drowned :/

Even with a moderately dry hatch this time, I had a sticky chick. I guess you have to find your own rhythm based on your context and location etc, but in any world, 60% before day 18 won't do them any good. Has that breeder had success with that method?

I'm working on getting the humidity down, trying charcoal and rice/salt/baking soda.
We'll see!
Chicks are adorable. :love Sorry about your losses.:hugs Try posting on another thread with pics and see if one of the more experienced folks has any suggestions. I really have no idea.
Thanks for the instagram link, I will check it out!
Setting up the brooder, using a 3 x 3 cardboard box that I cut down from a refrigerator box, going to using puppy pads as well. Easy clean up and less mess than shavings. Thanks for the tips about the Brinsea brooder, I will hopefully have marans hatching the day after the silkies, so they will be different sized chicks.
Looking forward to hear how your next batch turn out! I will keep checking back on your live feed. Fun to see how they are doing! :)
